I know I have learned from the Charlotte forum that it seems to be the most popular city and beach area to go to.

I also went downtown Columbia to explore

I know Ill be in Myrtle Beach Bike week
I dont bike but since the city ran them out then there ususally good hotel deals. At least there was last year

Is there a historical attraction I should see?

I never been to Charleston but I hope to in the late Spring.
What should I check out there?

The for Greenville what attractions should we see?

Like Fort Jackson is it worth the trip?
I have not study the history of this state and look forward

btw I wasnt impress with Hilton Head.
I couldnt find any public beaches there and I coulnt see visible landmarks
I guess you have tolive there or vacation there alot to know where things are. It too enviromenatly friendly for me
go to charleston or myrtle beach. I went to myrtle beach back in 2000 w/ my family and loved it. There was something to do everyday of the week.

Thanks im planning on going to Myrtle Beach bike week and I dont own a bike lol
Last year the hotel rates where really cheap since the city basically ran them out for instance they made the grand stand a one way street.
So im banking that it will be the same.
By all of you guys and the Charlotte forum recommending Charleston I will plan a week vacation there. I want to learn the history of the city as well.
What beaches in the area are popular like Edisto.
Lighthouses etc

I love when people want to do their own personal research, in addition to asking for gems!

You mentioned getting a book. Anyone really interested in S.C. should get this Fodor's Guide "South Carolina" by Henry Liefermann" It's a well illustrated paperback and includes a lot of insights into the culture of SC as well as interesting travel commentary. Barnes and Noble has it along with many others but many of them are out of date or cover dining spots that are long gone. (Amazon will have them all for less money.)

Check out Beaufort, SC also, particularly during the Gullah Festival.

The SC Festival of Roses held at Edisto Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg during the last weekend in April would make for a nice excursion.

Check out the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site or any of the several notable horse races in Camden, which is near Columbia.
