I'm moving to the Beaufort area in January. Several post describe Beafort as a retirement community. I'll be working in Yemassee. I don't need a big nightlife, but I'd like to meet someone and eventually marry. I'm a 42 year old, outdoorsy, conservative, professional woman. I've looked at homes on Lady's Island, Helena Island and in Ridgeland. I feel like I should live closer to Savannah in order to meet single men. However, I enjoy rural areas with acreage that are within a half hour of town for groceries etc. Will I be single forever in Ridgeland? Beaufort? Near Savannah (Hardeevilee). I would appreciate any advice.

Dawn

Probably. My son has been here 4 years and the women won't even LOOK at him. These people are NOT very friendly and there is no social life.

Ridgeland is small and a little more rural than Beaufort. It is located in Jasper County.

Savannah is about an hour away from Beaufort.
Land is expensive here,we live out on Saint Helena Island out towards the beach and it is what passes for rural in the county.

Hardeeville in my opinion is not a very nice town, basically exists to service the interstate.

There is a few places on downtown Beaufort to go out to,nothing wild of course.

Home prices are dropping and you should be able to buy much more for your money than a few years ago, still high if you are used to other more rural areas.

Just remember, there are a ton of army guys in the area. I don't know how many are single or not around your age. But you might want to look at that.

There are some army guys who live over here and work at Ft. Stewart or Hunter in Savannah, and coast guard guys, but your right most of the people are marines.

Ohh, I know, just most people see a uniform and think Army.

Actually when you DO seem someone in public in uniform here you know it is not a Marine as they cannot be in public in their 'regular' uniform,Army is different that way.

Also for all the military here,it isn't really a military town as such.
