I know Florence and Myrtle Beach has about a 70 mile separation going from downtown to downtown but its only 50 miles going from the eastern part of Florence to the western part of Myrtle Beach, even shorter if you go to Conway. Florence and Myrtle Beach already share the same market area and theirs a lot of commuters that go between the two cities. Do you think they should combined the 2 areas and maybe include Marion County which is between Florence and Horry Counties as a Combined Statistical Area like they did Columbia/Newberry and Greenville/Spartanburg/Anderson.
^And it is. If that requirement is satisfied, then it will be. If not, it won't. At this time, it's a pretty hard case to make for cities of such small sizes with that sort of distance between them.
If they combined MYB and FLO I would be shocked. The difference between Greenville- Spartanburg- Anderson and Florence- Myrtle Beach is that there is constant development between those cities. There is nothing between Florence and Conway which is still a good drive even from FMU. Florence isnt growing nearly fast enough for that to occur. Charlotte and Columbia will combine before Florence and Myrtle Beach do.
The Myrtle Beach and Florence metropolitan statistical areas could form a combined statistical area. Myrtle Beach and Horry County has no difficulty growing. Florence needs to grow.
Why do I think when one considers vacationing, living, retiring, etc. in MB that Florence is not even close to being on their mind? Other then both being in SC, I see no similarities.
Florence and Myrtle Beach are in the same television market.
