Default Who can tell me something about Summerton, SC?

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post about moving to SC I have lots of ideas about places to visit this summer.
A friend of mine is going to let us stay in their family home in Summerton, SC. Online it seems to be a small boring little city and that's ok as long as the crime rate is 0. Is it a ok place to live for a couple of months? How far would I have to go to find a little fun for the kids? When I say fun I mean family things like the movies, shopping malls, parks, swimming etc.. kid stuff.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would hardly call Summerton a "city". But it is centrally located. You are close to Lake Marion which has great fishing and boating. You can check out www.bigwatersantee.com. We haven't been yet, but have reservations towards the end of June. You are also just over an hour away from Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Columbia.... plenty of things to do at any of those places.

Manning is the closest to you for anything resembling city. It's a nice place too, they have shopping for the basics, a new Super Walmart, movies etc.

Summerton is right in the neck of the woods where I grew up. I've always liked Summerton, but there's really nothing there except the lake. It's a really small town, surrounded by cotton/corn/soybean/etc. fields and swampland. The Summerton Diner has the best sweet tea I've ever had, and people get pulled over constantly coming into town, where the speed limit drops from 55 to about 25. They have lots of fresh produce stands on US15, on the way into town.

Manning is nearby, which has slightly more stuff. Sumter is about 30 minutes away, which is a good bit larger than Manning. I don't know what you like to do, or what you have access to, but most people hunt, fish, play golf, ride around in the boat, go to church.. you get the picture. It's definitely not a stressful place. But if you expect lots of 'city amenities' like malls & movie theatres, you'll probably need to drive into Sumter.
