Why? Because our overworked legislators need a break from dealing with weighty legislation, such as proclaiming the official state worm (the Sanfordcrawler, perhaps?)

Golf carts are popular on neighborhood and beachfront roads down in our neck of the woods, and they are a real hazard. State laws require that they be registered with DMV and all operators "must" be licensed. Right..... We regularly see pre-teens driving them down the road, on and off the shoulder, over the sidewalks, etc.

It's interesting that legislators are considering expanding their usage, but are unable to agree on the dangers of texting while driving. But I'm sure that none of the teens driving the golf carts will be texting at the same time. I never realized the golf cart lobby was that strong...

Remember this when you visit the election polls next time. Surely we can elect smart people to represent us.

Apparently this bill has to do with CT&T's plan to build a new plant in Greenville.

Another way to know you live in South Carolina is that legislators spend time making laws like the one they're trying to pass now: If Christmas or Thanksgiving falls on any day other than Sunday, no one will be able to buy alcohol on those holidays.

It's been a law for many years ... they are only increasing the distance you are able to drive the golf from 2 miles from your residence to 5 miles. It's not really a big thing, just changing the existing law that has been in place. Most people never realized you could go to the highway dept and with proof of insurance and drivers license obtain a permit for the carts.

Oh, I was going to say, you know you live in SC when...the Mayor's get arrested for DUI several times, the police get fired for public nudity, and the state house still flies the confederate flag on the property, when the war clearly ended years ago.

There's nothing wrong with riding golf carts around.
People doin that all the time here.
Of course, I don't live in a congested area, and I wouldn't be caught dead
"driving" one on a major highway.
Not with the way people drive around here, no offense.
People drive alot crazier things around here than golf carts.(enuf said).
The senators are the ones I am upset with.
I want to run for Senate. I'd love to get a nice pay check and great
life time benefits for doing absolutely nothin.
Must be nice, huh?
Yea, the Senate is for me. LOL (:

Move up north if it bothers you so much.

I think we should all be bothered by some of the public officials in SC, local and state. Maybe we should just hold those that we elect to a higher standard instead of packing up the Uhaul.
