Default Anybody have experience living in a mobile home in Spearfish?

Having trouble finding a two bedroom apartment in Spearfish that will allow pets but also don't cost a fortune. Don't think a college student can afford $800+ plus ulilities.

Anyway, I found a listing for a two bedroom mobile home, not sure if they allow pets yet but I was just wondering if anybody can give me an idea on what they are like living in. Nice, comfortable, safe?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the home I guess. I've been in rickety old things that aren't suitable for a dog kennel. But I've also been in some double wides that are hard to tell that they are a trailer house.

Watch out for tornadoes! (kidding, kinda)

In your area the home would have to be 2 by 6 frame with R19 insulation and good storm windows, the fewer the better also well anchored down and well insulated water pipes.

There are some decent ones to be had. I lived in one for a couple of years.

The tornadoes... between them and a divorce some south Dakotan will be losing a trailer.

Insulation and good skirting are important. If I staying with mine, I would have insulated the skirting. I had metal skirting that was pretty nice.

Just like apartments or anything, a lot depends on the neighbors. If it's a dump of a trailer park, it's not as pleasant maybe - but the actual mobile home can be fine to live in - compared with many apartments, you have some elbow room and usually your own yard.

They're safer than apartments because in case of someone setting up a meth lab or falling asleep with a cigarette, in an apartment you can easily become a victim but not so much with a mobile home.

I would be very careful in checking out the home...I have driven by several that I called on, and I wouldn't live in them. You would need a tetanus shot (or two!) to live in them! It's surprising, because the rest of Spearfish is pretty nice, but the mobile home parks are mostly scary! I found one - out near Wal-Mart - that was livable, but I think most of the homes are privately owned. See if you can google map the address to have it give you a look around the neighborhood, if you aren't in the local area. I would suggest looking out toward Belle Fourche, if you have a car and don't mind a short commute!

Cool, thanks no8.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking actually. Right now in Jersey I am about 15 minutes from the school I go to but in actuality with the traffic it takes more like 25-30 minutes to get there everyday.

I figure Belle Fourche is about the same distance as I am commuting now except there will be hardly any traffic which will result in much less time spent commuting.

Thanks again!

By the way, this might be a lot to ask but it's only if somebody comes across it without going out of their way, if any of you see a two bedroom apartment that will allow small caged pets in Spearfish, Belle Fourche or even Deadwood I suppose, if you could just relay the info back to me I would greeeeeeatly appreciate it. I am getting so desperate trying to find a place and it is so hard living so far away.

Thanks again!
