I'll be hiking Cowboy Hill soon. Where are the trailheads? Where can I park my car? I know of a trailhead by the Abourezk law firm, but not sure if I can park my car in their lot.

I think M hill might be private property. Check with the School of Mines. I am guessing park in the park east of the law firm to make the hike. If it is permitted.

Well, I decided to go investigate the M Hill trail. I found a trailhead on Founders Parkway. I was quite surprised. There is a huge parking lot and ample signage at the TH, along with a map of all the trails leading up to the top. They can be quite confusing, though, for the first-timer. But I took the SW/S route up to the top of M Hill, then followed the ridge to the tv tower. It was a nice hike (not too strenuous) and it took about 30 minutes to reach the top. Not bad for having broke my leg on New's Year Eve and having a rod and three pins in it. This was my first hike since the accident.

There were more trails leading even further north beyond the tv tower, but I decided not to do too much the first time. Maybe next time.

The M looks so much bigger up close than from street level!

If you go, bring water, sunscreen and a cap. There is some shade from the pines scattered about, but mostly it's open space.

From the summit you can see Harney Peak, as well as Bear Butte Mountain (maybe my next hike).

All is all, this is a pretty good hiking trail. It's within city limits and a good weekday practice hike.

Oops, it's not Founders Parkway. It's Founders Park Drive, which I believe is actually 12th Street.
