Cabins in Camp Crook, SD
I was hunting in SD last fall and stayed in Buffalo but I remember seeing some cabins on the South side of the hwy that goes from Buffalo to Camp Crook. It was on a road just off the hwy right as we were entering Camp Crook. I would like to find out more about those cabins and see if I can get a phone # to call. Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could help you, but I'm not familiar enough with the area to know. Hopefully someone from West River will eventually stumble on to this site.

Apparently there are two business's in Camp Crook, so if one of the links on the site has a phone number to a business, you should be at least 1/2 way to what you need.
I am going out that way tomorrow, but I will be a couple hundred miles south of Camp Crook.

I have live in that area before. I know who owns the cabins you are talking about but I think you may have to be there hunting buffalo in order to stay in them.

Contact info.
The cabins are part of the Catron Ranch. They are usually full during rifle season but may have openings during archery season. You can contact Mike at 605-797-4538.

Does anyone ever hear of any real estate available in the Camp Crook area or in that lovely back road that goes southwest through Capitol, Albio and Alzeda and which crosses the Little Missouri River numerous times?
I would love to find something out that way. No realtors in Ekalaka and Broadus only deals with big acreages and not in that county.

Theres Not much for sale up here unless you plan on buying a whole ranch. None of the ranchers up here will split off any type of parcel for ya (like splitting off 40 acres from their thousands) except on VERY VERY VERY RARE occasions. There is nothing in Camp Crook for sale pretty much either. Most of it is all family owned. Once in a great while when someone passes away they may auction off the property or sell but otherwise theres nill up here. I live in buffalo and even in buffalo people hang on to houses of deceased relatives until there is absolutey nothing left of it and it falls to the ground. We got very very lucky and talked the buy we were renting from into selling us this house.
the other mentality up here is they frown on outsiders. Hell even after being up here for 3 years we still get the cold should from most people up here. If your not related, or were born here, they seem to not want you here. Go figure. sure hate it for em, cuz were here to stay wether they like it or not ROFLMAO

Homesteader, I'm sorry to hear that they aren't accepting. I know of one very friendly and welcoming small town in our area, but that's not the norm. That's why I always recommend that newcomers stick to cities where the population is at least 10,000 people. Some of our smaller towns are backward and unworldly and can be quite closed to new people.
