Now that you mention discrimination in So. Dak. I've been paying a bit of attention to it. Today I was reading an online newspaper from another area of the state. I was going through the classified sections and noticed an employment ad that said,"Preference will be give to Indians."

Dear Gage "Manager" - seems like you might not be cut out for management. I think you need to take action if you have a probelm with something.. And NO - South Dakota is not the only place where this happens it happend EVERYWHERE. I'm originally from South Dakota and currently live in Houston, TX where there is no shortage of "mixed races" and racisim doesn't have anything to do with South Dakota as a stand alone state. It has to do w/ the people you are working with and if you have an issue with.. then do something about it or get out.

Hi KLH, what part of So. Dak. did you grow up in? I'm sure it's VERY different, but what do you like better about Houston and what did you like better about SD? We have some friends who live in Houston~he's a police officer and she's a dispatcher. Are you glad you left SD?

Well it is alot harder to go against the company then you think esspecially when your in mid level magament and you boss is the one who is discriminating, when the hr woman threatens your job when you complain, it is a right to work state which means they can fire you and there is not a thing you can do about it. It is your word against theres, and if there is a witness you can bet they reminded them the same way, now if I were female or a minority I would have a case. I have personally seen the gages recruit people to lie in their past discrimination cases even though they do not ask them out right to lie but tell you what they want you to say.

I can relate to you in some ways its a hard call, but you are probly best to report them no matter what, when I worked there was a rumor, a guy wanted to be promoted but worked for a guy who is well know for hating colored people this guy was black and the supervisor wouldnt promote him, he would promte a guy (white of course) been there 3 days he would quit then the next white guy hired promote him a week later john had been there 3 years well the rumor around the plant the hr woman made a pass or vise versa one night and there got to be a relationship and he made an agreement or thought they had a agreement that he was to be made a leadman and when he didnt get it he sued well from what I heard it was there word against his but i heard they were trying to find witnesses all over the plant. but it was a rumor and no telling how much was true

There are a lot of employment opportunities in Sioux Falls and if this company really is this awful, I'd start looking for another job. Why put yourself through the misery of watching this type of cruelty and archaic thinking?

Jammie
I grew up in Huron/Sioux Falls area. Houston is alot different, obviously than SD. But I miss many things about SD alot. I love the hustle/bustle of the big city... having access to so many retail shops, authentic ethnic foods, the Arts, major sports teams, the Gulf, etc... but I also miss the calmness of a smaller community. You are obviously lost in a sea of people when you live in a big city.- Houston being the 4th largest. I hate the weather here... and while I don't exactly LOVE it when it's 100 below in SD,... It would be nice to experience some real "seasonal changes" now and then.

lee844 -
I would agree w/ everyone else... Just get out - there are other places to work and why would you even want to be associated with a company that works like that?
