Default Waterfront Property

Hello my name is Troy I am a Captain in the US Army currently serving in Iraq. Upon my return from Iraq I am going to purchase some land that I will develope over the next 10 years for my retirement.

My question is there much waterfront land available in SD? And if so would you please recommend some areas?

Some things I am looking for:
Town 8000+ in population with in a 30 minute drive
Good public hunting (turkey, Duck and pheasant)
Good public schools
Plenty of trees
Lakefront or riverfront

hey Troy,
Thank YOU for protecting our country and for all of the personal sacrifices that you are making! Do a search on Marshall County, South Dakota and on Britton, South Dakota specifically. I think our community is exactly what you are looking for-great public education, many lakes [Clear Lake, Roy Lake, Buffalo Lake, Red Iron lake, Four Mile, Six Mile, Nine Mile Lake,Cottonwood Lake just to mention a few], fabulous hunting and fishing and within driving distance of Aberdeen, Fargo, Minneapolis, Souix Falls etc. Let me know if you are interested in additional information and I would be happy to assist you. Take care and God bless you.
Sincerely,
Kay Marie

Thank you sir. Been there, done that. I was in Iraq the first time, guess we didn't do it right. My son just got back from Iraq. Was sure glad he come home. He was in Al Habinia. The dreded triangle.

You sir, are welcome in SD. Lake front property is hard to come by. Sylvan lake, Pactola, Sheridan lake. All are good spots. Danny is going to bite me on this one, Silver City is a good bet.

Tjak, thank you for all you do for our country. If you want lakefront property and a town with 8,000+ try Pierre, Watertown, Brookings, Yankton, or Vermillion. You would not live IN these towns per se, but they are very close to large bodies of water like the Missouri River or reservoirs and lakes.

Yo will probably not find too much lakefront property in Western South Dakota because the elevation is too high and there are no glacial lakes like there are in Eastern South Dakota. Only the Black Hills features mountain lakes and you would be about a 20 minute drive from any town over 8,000+. The drive to Rapid City from nearby Pactola Lake is about 20-30 minutes. I do not know if that is convenient enough for you.

Good Luck and Thanks Again!

Tjak, I have no suggestions to add to the others. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for what you're doing for our country.

Troy--I've gotta tell you, that the best kept secret is the Saint Francis Case Lake near Pickstown. The water is gorgeous and the weather is probably the most mild that SD can get. This would be 12 miles from Wagner, which is a city of 6000. It's 50 miles from Yankton. Boating and hunting is prevalent. There are actually rolling hills and views along the Missouri River.
