That is unreal!!! The gas price over in the eastern part of the state is 3.26 for super unleaded and 3.36 for unleaded. Generally, it's higher out there. Do I have a nice surprise waiting for me when I fill gas this weekend? Is it on a downhill slide?

There was a refinery that had to shut down production. Don't even remember where it was at. But all the other refinery's had to make up for them. About 10 days ago, they fixed the problems and went back into production. Now they're catching up with demand so the prices are dropping.

Course, now that they're catching up with demand, they'll probably turn down production so they can maintain prices.

OMG, on my way to and from work, I pass a couple of stations. Super unleaded just dropped to 3 a gallon in those eight and a half hours.

I'm not exactly sure where we get our oil from, but I do know that one of the refineries in OK was flooded a couple weeks ago so the news said it would drive up oil prices in a lot of areas.

Gas prices in Rapid City were about 3.30 and when I went to Denver gas was only 2.89!

I wonder how low THEY are now?!?!?!

My understanding is that it was one of the Kansas refineries that flooded and drove the prices up.

I really can't believe prices are still that high. Down here in Orlando I just refilled my car for 2.81/gallon. My rent is actually cheaper than it was in SD as well. Who knew I'd be paying a bit less on things by moving south?

Here's to hoping that the gas prices in SD continue to fall!

Jessi, what town did you live in when you lived up here? When I was checking on the internet, apartments looked awfully expensive in Fla. How did you find one that's reasonable?

I lived in Aberdeen and I paid rent to my parents based on electric, water, and gas each month plus groceries and laundry. I had many friends who were paying upwards of $750 per month in Aberdeen for a one-bedroom apartment that is what I would consider "decent" living conditions. I refuse to live in a place that is infested with bugs, has holes in the walls, is missing windows, smells like human waste, and is home to druggies and general societal slime. There is some cheap housing in Aberdeen, but you get exactly that...cheap housing.

To find my Orlando apartment I used ApartmentHunters. I gave them my maximum rent budget per month and told them what I needed and where I worked. They did all of the work. They immediately weeded out the slums and found me a great apartment community in Orlando where I pay $825 per month for a 808 sq foot apartment with a BUNCH of awesome amenities (including a free personal trainer).

I know I'm paying more for rent than my friends in Aberdeen, but I'm a RN in Orlando and I'm getting paid $3-5 more per hour (depending on shift differential) with better insurance benefits and retirement earnings than I would have been paid as an RN in Aberdeen. The calculations done by myself and my financial advisor (mom) all showed that living in Orlando would be a better deal...and I'd be able to live closer to my ailing grandmother and aunt.

Sorry. Didn't need to go on and on like that. I still can't believe the gas prices in the midwest. Have they come down at all?

yeah gas prices are coming down in SD and elsewhere. Gosh I hope that free personal trainer is HOT.

You are in an industry that has high demand. Good luck with your job and living arrangements.

Wow, you really had to pay high rent in Aberdeen! 600 a month will get you a very nice apartment in the town I live in. Of course, you can get something decent for 400 or a little more.

But yes, our gas price has dropped a bit. I can't remember exactly, but I think it's down to 2.80 here. I'll double check tomorrow and if that's not right, I'll add to this post.

Correction~OK I checked the gas price today. It is 2.95 per gallon. We shop at a local store who gives us cards that give us a 5 cent discount if we buy gas at their convenience store so we actually pay 2.90 per gallon. Sorry for the original misinformation.
