Thinking of moving to Canton or there abouts
Hello all,
I was thinking of moving to Canton, SD, or there abouts, but it sounds like that area is getting pretty crowded.
I am looking for a very safe place to raise children.
Also, I am a Videographer. In other words I video tape weddings and such, and also transfer tape and film to DVD.
Not sure if there is a big demand for that out there, nor how much competition there is.
Also, my wife has a professional house and or office cleaning service for 20 years.
Any thoughts or suggestions.
Tony

Tony, what type of an area are you used to? Canton isn't a big town at all. They do have an awesome car show every year though.

Hi,
I mostly have lived in small very friendly country towns,
with big backyards, literally no crime.
But, usually 20 to 30 minutes away to a shopping mall and or restaurants.

You've probably already seen this, but there is a lot of into on here. I was surprised to see that it's that close to Sx. Falls. though. Guess I always thought it was a further drive then that. It looks like it could be just what you're looking for. It's actually a cute town and I remember thinking that it's such a clean town.

So, you are saying it is a cute town and a clean town.
But, how are the people, kind friendly, caring, etc.
Also when is the last time you were there.
Places change, sometimes it feels as quick as over night.

You're right. Well, it's been a few years since we were actually there. We had gone to the car show over there. We did pass through Canton last Oct. when we left for our vacation. It still looked fine then. As far as the people~I don't know. When we've been there it was very crowded with a lot of out of towners and we never had any problems. But to be honest, we've never spent any time in Canton when there wasn't something going on there so of course I don't know the locals from the out of towners. We do have a member or two from the Sx. Falls area and hopefully they'll wander in here cause they'd know a lot more about the town that I do. I live about an hour and a half away from there.

So, hopefully someone else will will see my post.
But, in the mean time.
I have posted more or less what I'm looking for.
Do you have any suggestions of a quiet, small, nice people,
kind of town.
BTW: I have 4 seasons where I live now.
They are summer, 60 to 100 degrees and could get humid.
sometimes to hot and humid.
Fall, great weather 60 to 80 no humidity.(Love it)
Winter, usually 4 to 15 inches of snow and temps can be,
0 to 50 degrees.(OK, but some some winter can be long with way to much snow.)
Spring can be like fall except usually a lot of rain. I like it a lot especially if not so much rain.
Any suggestions.
Not asking to for to much am I.
Isn't that place called Paradise.

Let me throw my three cents (inflation) in.
Fairview, I think, is a bit small for what you and your wife do for a living. The nearest paved road is 6 miles away. haha Several miles from where you could ply your or your wifes trades. Winters would be bad to try and travel to anything that you would be doing.
I'll admit, it's been a few years since I've been through there. But it was a nice little lazy town

Have you checked into any small towns in western So. Dak? Since you're both self-employed, it would be a nice area to check in to. The reason I'm asking is because the weather you're describing is a bit better then eastern So. Dak. We can get high temps during the summer and we have humidity in eastern So. Dak. Of course, it's not like the South, but you can have several 100 plus days in the summer with humidity. The Hills area is a semi-arid climate and even though you can hit 100 plus, you won't have the humidity to deal with. BUT the main reason is our winters. You could easily wake up to -20 to -30 below and if you factor in the windchills, it gets very cold here at times. We have had months that it doesn't warm up to freezing, yet a lot of days in the Rapid area warm up to freezing. It's not unusual for this area to hit a high of -10 and the Hills will have 35 degrees. Just something to consider.
