South Dakota Abortion Law Requires 3-Day Wait
PIERRE, S.D.—South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard signed a law Tuesday requiring women to wait three days after meeting with a doctor to have an abortion, the longest waiting period in the nation.
Abortion rights groups immediately said they plan to file a lawsuit challenging the measure, which also requires women to undergo counseling at pregnancy help centers that discourage abortions.
Mr. Daugaard, who gave no interviews after signing the bill, said in a written statement that he has conferred with state attorneys who will defend the law in court and a sponsor who has pledged private money to finance the state's legal costs.

this is nothing but another anti abortion law roger hunt (the only bills roger ever presents in the state legislature has to deal with a woman vagina (look it upover the last 6yrs) got thru the house of idiots in Peirre-- I thought we South Dakotans repealed the last 2 laws overwhemly-- all they are doing is making lawyers money-- I don't know why we vote in SD because the repubs and roger always bypass what the people voted for. The privite money is probably coming from billion auto -- they donated boocoos of money during the last abortion adventure

It allows for a 3 day waiting period. Other things that require a waiting period: Purchasing a gun (2nd amendment right.) a divorce which requires a 60 day waiting period. The 3 day waiting period for this doesn't outlaw abortions. I wonder how this will apply to cases mothers health?
They should also have a 3 day waiting period for issuing marriage licenses.

the way I understand it SD is that a woman has to get written verification that she has went for counseling at a Pro life facility before going to get an abortion--- the kicker is the Pro-life facility is not obligated to provide the written proof to allow this to happen thus (in my mind) this is an anti abortion law -- no proof =no abortion= coat hanger city=dead 14yr olds and the kicker Ryan, is that my thinking is not effected by left handed smokes

My thinking is an inch of prevention is worth a pound a cure. If you want to fool around... Use multiple forms of prevention. (I am glad I am snipped and my personality is a good means of contraceptive, therefore providing me with multiple forms of prevention)
I guess my hope is the decision is informed. It seems to require peer reviewed medically accepted studies to show the implications. Studies filed with Medical journals and filed in Medical Library.
This is what all the fuss is about : 2011 Session - Bill History
I am guessing a successful could be amounted to emergency cases involving mothers life or incest/rape incidents.

I don't see anything wrong with providing information, then making someone think about an abortion for 3 days.

It's not like a woman is walking down the street, sees the clinic and say, "Hey, I think I'll pop in and get an abortion."
3 day wait???? Just how stupid can they get. A woman thinks long and hard on something like that. It's not a spur of the moment decision.
Let's get a 3 day wait on other things. Want to buy a car? I think you should be counseled on major purchases. There are far too many people going into dept and should be informed before they are allowed to buy a car.
Want to buy a home? No, you can't put down a down payment until you show me the certificate that you have been counseled on long term debt.
I think this is another fine example of people, who have no business, meddling in other folks lives. Why should you (general you, nobody in particular) have anything to say about somebody else's decision. It's not treading on your property. Doesn't effect your life, your job. It is their decision and nobody else's.
