Default Mitchell, SD -- Corn Palace Festival -- Eateries

Will be in Mitchell, SD in late August to see this event, attend the Wierd Al show, etc.

Are there any eateries worthy of note? Don't want the usual chains, we're looking for local places of merit.

Any other advice about Mitchell is welcome.

Thanks!
s/Mike

Welcome to Mitchell, Mike!!!

You may want to try Marlins. It's on the west side of 37~turn off I-90 at Exit 332 and it's right there. But be HUNGRY or order carefully. Their helpings are huge and their lemonade, pop, iced tea, etc. are served in quart jars. Just an FYI~it's actually a truck stop, but they have VERY good food.~East Interstate 90

Another good place to eat is ***** Horners. It's on North Main so from the Corn Palace, drive north a few blocks and you'll see it on the west side of the street. It's right beside Burger King.~1691 North Main

You may also be interested in The Depot. It's along the tracks at the south end of Main. So from the Corn Palace head straight south and The Depot will be straight ahead of you about 6 blocks. You'll run right in to it since it's the end of Main Street.~210 South Main

The Brig is also a good restaurant. From the Palace, head straight north again. It's several blocks away and you'll think you're nearly out of town, but it'll be on your right hand side right across from the Lake.~2700 N. Main

There's also Chef Louie's~Take exit 332 and it'll take you to the intersection of Havens and 37 (Burr when you're in city limits) At Havens Street, take a right and it's right around the corner.~601 E. Havens

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. If you'd like to see a familiar face, PM me.

Ok Jammie, you really got my curiosity up. What is the name of that first restaurant that you named and the curse filters nailed you. hahahaha Either you spelled it wrong, or it's got a really strange name.

OMG, I'm so glad you pointed that out to me. I don't think it was there last night because I reread my post to be sure it was accurate. It boggles my mind that just recently I saw the word "a*s" on here, yet this was filtered out. LOL Yea, I filtered the three letter word myself.

The word starts with a FAN. Then you have NY. That's the real name of it and it's so familiar to me that I never realized the silliness of the name.

Default Mitchell Eateries

Blarney's has moved and really spiffed itself up. Brick pizza oven, new chef, full restaurant menu, large variety of tap beer, etc. Mitchell has the usual litany of chains, but we've also got a glut of homegrown restaurants. Some are good, some are greasy spoons, etc. Most of the bars have food as well, some amounts to a deep fat fryer and others are pretty good. Have fun and try 'em all!

Oh yea~Blarney's Irish Pub~actually I've never been there. Is the food good? I also remember people talking about how good the food was at the Jackpot. I've was there a few times several years ago on Karoake night. Guess I just never thought of it as a "dining" place probably because of the peanut shell flooring. Do they still have that? Anyway, they are supposed to have some good food, too. (They're located across from the Corn Palace.) It's a rustic looking building.

Could you give the OP the addy and directions to Blarneys? Where did they move to?

Default Eateries - Location of Blarneys

I-90 and Burr Street - the "east" or "Cabela's" Mitchell exit. Just south of I-90 on the east side of Burr Street in the east end of the Highland Mall.

Oh no, don't listen to KORN. Listen to it's sister station KOOL 98. That's where you'll hear the golden oldies.

OK, yesterday we played tourist and went through the Highland Mall and found the Irish Pub. We peeked in and it does look like a quaint place.

Mike, I'm not sure if you're interested in hotels since you didn't ask about them, BUT the Kelly Inn is a nice place and for the first time we went to the Hampton Inn. It's really nice, too. But they also are nearly finished with the NEW Comfort Inn that will be attached to the convention center. It's in the Highland Travel Plaza just east off exit 332. We just fell in love with the Comfort Inn. It is SO nice. We already have a Comfort Inn here that has always been nice, but this new one is exceptional.
