Well Tranny.....I have lived in numerous different states and cities, including Virginia, between Richmond and DC. I like Sioux Falls alot better than other places because I'm paid alot more here than Minnesota plus no state income tax. And the economic problem is really not as bad as the rest of the country, if you look at statistics the Midwest's unemployment rate is about half the rest of the country which in most peoples opinion's is quite good....I'm not sure if you understand that not every year you're going to get dumped on with snow.....And I don't think tornado warnings cause a majority of the people to 'act like the world is going to end'.....Again, as Chris has stated and I'm sure others will or are thinking, It's good you moved away, no one should stay somewhere they don't want to be.....

Default ..

It is true, the central and northern plains states are still economically very strong..

This includes the Dakotas, Minnesoata, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas for sure..

There is probably more, but I only know of those states that are are as strong economically as they have ever been..

I know of a good reason why too, for one people in these areas are too disciplined to take out financially risky loans for things they know they cannot afford, that and the area banks are too disciplined and intelligent to take the silly approach the coastal banks did and everyone, include us has to bail these unethical people out..

Yes, I have been to the east coast and people are psycho drivers who can be morons and there is more of the haves and have nots there too. Too much of a caste-like system out east. Yes, the east coast is a nice place to visit and to live in certain areas. I have no desire moving there. Too expensive and there is too much of stupid snobbery attitude of the rich and a class system there that is too complicated.

People who choose to live in Sioux Falls and rural areas choose to live there for the simpler life and things much more than the culture, classy stuff, etc., etc., etc. Yes, I may come off as defensive, but I do not care for you insulting my post. Thanks and have a good day. May God bless you in your future endeavors.
Sounds to me that TTT was forced here against her/his will and didn't want to come to SF in the first place. I haven't met a single person that moved here from another city like I did that has second guessed that move. When I was looking for somewhere to move my family, I needn't look any farther than SF.

TransientTranny, while you may personally feel that way about Sioux Falls, there are many who love the city and call it home. You may not like all of things the city has to offer, but others love the small town feel of things, the slow pace of life, and living in a place where people are friendly. I'm NOT saying where you are from isn't friendly or anything else, just merely stating it's your opinion.

I've traveled the world and can say Sioux Falls offers a great family environment, and the pace of life I enjoy for myself and my family. While I will not be here permanently, if my family lived closer, I would consider staying here in Sioux Falls.

Bottomline is, depending on your age and what you want for your family in a city, ANY city can be GREAT or SUCK beyond belief. I know people that HATE New York City, San Antonio, and DC, but I absolutely loved all three of those places when I lived there.

To just bash a place on here the way you have is what other web forums call a "troll". You show up, blast negativity, and then go away. Your opinion may fit a small percentage of people here, but I would say 99% of them could care less. Once again, I'm not from here, but I think you are a little off in your opinion or at a minimum, your delivery. Here's to hoping you have a nice day...

Good points. I realize this thread has become old now but I just wanted to say that Sioux Falls seems to have more people living here that have moved from other parts of the country than actual 'born and raised' people from here.

That says a lot about the good in this town. I am from MI and I have met people who now live here who moved from GA, LA, FL, RI, NJ, MN, and even Hawaii. ALL have had nothing but good things to say. Matter of fact, most of the negative stuff I've heard comes only from people who have lived only in SF and no where else. Most of that is just the usual "I wish there were more concerts, clubs, etc" or something along those lines.

For people who love community, family outings, nature, and things along those lines, SF is the perfect place. All the things a big city has but with that 'small town' feel.

You just can't get more American than that. It's the right kind of balance.

I hope it can stay that way. I hope we can help it stay this way.

Kansas does not really have a strong economy at all. In fact, the state has lost non-farm employment since 2000. The only reason that Kansas has a low unemployment rate is because the out-migration of people is so strong. Young people leave rural Kansas as fast as they can, and move to an urban area in the state or elsewhere.

Thanks, I was trying to defend my new home and the people here that have made me and my family feel so welcomed !!!

read all the info on the message boards, But here is what I want to know. Besides the cold winters ( which is fine, I like cold) what are the down sides of Sioux Falls, you know, the bad things that you don't get on the websites?
and I know someone else also asked, what are the areas to stay away from?
any info would be appreciated.
Hi there! My family and I are actually getting moved down to El Paso and I am kind of in the same boat. I DON'T want to leave here, but I live in Rapid City, on the extreme west side of the state. I have been doing my research and am a bit concerned about the move. I have gotten used to this awesome environment and I feel so safe and cozy here. Rapid City is an awesome place to raise a family, we moved here from metro Detroit when I was 8 months prego and it was/ is so safe to raise a family, it's almost like a diff. way of life here, so much more laid back and slower. The only negative that I came across for me was the bad storms that usually seem to hit the east side of the state, and not just snow storms. Other than that, that's about all. Hope you join this lovely state and enjoy it!

Michchix, it's great to hear that you enjoy living in Rapid City. It is a very great place to grow up. What's causing your move to El Paso? If you don't mind me asking.

Wow El Paso ?? I've spent 11 of my 18 years in the Army in Texas and I LOVE those cities. San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston and so many other smaller towns are great. As much as I loved being in those cities (and I hate to say it) I hated El Paso. Hate to bring a bad light to things, but it has to be near the bottom of my list of favorite cities. Dirty, crime, and just a desolate look to the whole place. Outside of the mountain range there, I would be real happy NEVER going back to that city again. Here's to hoping your experience and opinion of the city are MUCH MUCH better than mine...
