Does anyone know how things are in Huron SD? I can't seem to find affordable housing in Aberdeen and the prices in Huron are more in my league.
Telare seems affordable also. If you know anything about these places please let me know. Thank you. |

What do you want to know about the towns? Tulare is very small and Huron has a population of around 10,000. Will you be needing employment? If you could list a few questions, we'll try to help you.

Yes I will be looking for employment. I was wondering if the towns were depressed or lively. Do they have any charm or are they bland and have nothing of their own.
Are there arts and music of any kind? Thank you. Last edited by pie in ear; 08-05-2007 at 12:20 PM. |

HMMM, guess I'll take a try at this. I don't know if you'll find ANY employment in Tulare. The Huron area has it's ups and downs, but has never been an extremely thriving community.
Plainsman Online You can check out their local newspaper so you'll get an idea of what's available. Huron is home to the South Dakota State Fair. Have you considered Mitchell or Sioux Falls?

Aberdeen has a much better job market than either of those places. It also has a lot more in terms of music/art because of NSU and PC. Housing is a tight in Aberdeen right now because of the flood, but you should still be able to find a decent apartment for not too much money.
The job market in tulare is non-existent and i don't think huron has much more than a turkey plant and some retail jobs... and agriculture of course. |

Wow. I was born in Miller and we went to livestock auctions in Redfield. I have never went that way. We used to go to Redfield, Huron, and such, just never went up 281. haha
I had to break out the atlas to see where it's at. By the way, my map program shows Tulare as being 2 blocks wide and about 6 blocks long. Although I am not familiar with that town, a lot of Eastern South Dakota small towns are pretty set. By that I mean, everybody that lives there, works there and there are normally no jobs, nor houses. They got the same number of people that want to work, as they do jobs. Sad but true. Aberdeen is thriving. They started some big steel manufacturing there years ago (not smelts and stuff, but machine tool stuff) and the owners put money back into the community. As such, more stuff started taking a good look at it and they liked what they saw and they moved in thier business'. It never boomed, but it has seen steady growth for a long time. Good solid business' and good solid people. |
