Had to laugh when I saw these pictures, I used to live on the top floor of the building next to the Antique dealer. It was Soupers when I lived there. Great town to live in but I wouldn't suggest main street as the place to try to study and get some sleep!!

A few SD pics
Thought I would share a few pics myself. The first one is Pactola Lake in the Black Hills area. What a beautiful, peaceful lake! Lots of crushed slate to walk on and look at. When I was there, there was absolutely no wind. I could have been there for hours.
The second is the Badlands area.
The third picture is the beach on the Missouri River near Pickstown, South Dakota. I think people are going to get mad at me since I keep mentioning this area, but this is one of the best places in SD for water lovers!
The fourth picture was taken at Falls Park in Sioux Falls this past winter. Wow....this winter was bitterly cold and looooooooong. There was some pretty snowy scenery, though.

Well, here they are. Upon your request for more pictures of the Missouri River, I found some that were worth sharing. The first one might turn people off, but oh well. Is South Dakota still one of the only states that allow cattle right along the water? I thought it was interesting to see a whole herd of cattle cooling them off on a hot July day in the river. The next few are just some scenery pictures. On the north or east side of the river/lake, you can find some nice, sandy beaches. Yes, in South Dakota, there are some beaches, hard to believe, I know. Go on the south/west side, though, and you'll have some fun in the mud. I'll have to dig up some of those pictures some day. One of my cousins was up to his thighs in icky, brown gooey mud. Maybe it was where those cattle had been????
The last picture is south of the Fort Randall Dam, where you can see bald eagles.

I can't get over how low Pactola Lake is nowadays. You can hardly swim in it yet alone boat in it.

Ha! That's funny that you mention that. I plan on getting scuba certified before I go on a trip to Florida in June. They train you in Pactola and I'll be diving down to see the old underwater town!

Those are some great pics you got there yourself! I especially like the ones of the tunnels. The Wounded Knee pictures are great in black and white. It helps capture the reverence. It is sad to believe that dozens of Native Americans are buried there in a mass grave. I have been there a couple times and it is always very sorrowful. But that's an entirely different topic...
