New member interested in Miller, SD
My mother's great grandfather is Henry Miller who founded the town of Miller. We are very interested in meeting and talking with anyone from Miller, or anyone who has an interest in Miller. We are also currently searching for Miller history and have acquired "Bring On the Pioneers" by Scott Heidepriem from the Hand County Library when my mother visited Miller over 30 years ago. I'm 51 years old, recently divorced, and considering moving to Miller. We'd love to talk to anyone of interest.

Hi Cheryl and welcome to the board. Hey, we're the same age. Sorry I can't help you about Miller though. I've actually never been there.

Hi,
I'm originally from Miller, SD and Scott used to be my next door neighbor. Miller is a nice little town, but there isn't too much there in the way of employment opportunites these days.
If your retired/semi-retired, it would be a nice place to live as far as housing, taxes, and cost of living is concerned. The nice part of a small town like Miller is that it has everything you need (hospital, courthouse, grocery store, post office, drug store, bank, convience store, grocery store, etc.) and you can be anyplace in town in less then 10 minutes.
It's full of friendly people and has good, fairly new schools. The grade school is getting a little old, I think it was built in the late 50's and as IO recall the high school was built in the late 80's or early 90's??
Back when I was in school we had a spinster teacher who I believe was related to the founder of Miller?

I too was born in Miller South Dakota. November 30, 1953. I still have a bazillion cousins that live in and around Miller. I'll start circulating the word and see if I can come up with anything.
It's funny this topic come up today. Earlier, I was in the storage shed digging through boxes looking for photo's. Somewhere (haven't found them yet) I've got a whole pile of 8x10 photo's of Miller. Main Street when it was dirt and only a few cars, but lots of wagons and buggy's. The court house when it was the only thing in site and the trees were less then 5 ft tall. The origianal school when they had 1-12 all in the same building.
As soon as I find them, I'll scan them and will be able to send jpg files via email to anybody that wants them.

We must be related down the line somehow, my grandfather was Keith Miller. My grandmother has many photo's and articles from the early times of the town, not to mention many, many stories. I did a report on the Henry Miller escapades that brought him to this area and the beginnings of the town, but that was back in high school and my memory has lost most of that research.
My grandmother is always looking for someone to share memories with and I'm sure would be thrilled to get in contact with you, unless she already is since I'm not real sure who you are.

Or, I could just post them here if others want to see them. Miller S.D. in the early 1900's. Most pictures have horse and buggys with just a few cars.
