Question Moving to Brookings! We need 3bed/1+bath house to RENT.

My family and I are relocating to Brookings, SD. We will be new to the area. We are having trouble finding available homes to rent. We've been looking online...craiglist...it seems pretty tight there! We need have a few months still. But, we need one by June 1st, 2012. We are assuming maybe more will open up when college kids move out? But, we'd like to have a nice clean house to live in away from the college. Does anyone know of any landlords in brookings? Or recommend a property management? Do real estate companies ever have renting an option?

Try calling the Town & Country Shopper (605) 692-9311.
Lots of housing ads in that paper, and it's a weekly free one. They may be willing to mail you some for the postage cost. That's where you'll find the most advertisements for housing in Brookings, besides Craigs List (which that seems to be mostly college). The paper always seems to have a variety, not just college but for families too.
Hope that helps!

housing and rentals are still tight in Brookings, apartment construction has been fairly rapid the last 2-3 years helping with supply. New apartment complex has started as we speak, innovation village (a second complex). Things were much tighter 4-5 years ago though.

The weekly yellow paper, town and county shopper, is your best bet.

June is one of the best months to find rentals, as the college students leave and rentals become available.
