Where to live in SD, well weather is always a consideration. Sometimes the Rapid City area is referred to as the Banana Belt for its sometimes warmer winter conditions. As of the time of this post, Rapid is 52F and Sioux Falls is -3F. Perhaps there is something to this Banana Belt thing.

Hi there AFdude. Sometime back I retired from Ellsworth and now live in Carlisle, PA right next door to Mechanicsburg. Small world. Ellsworth is a great assignment. Take full advantage of all it has to offer. There's a lot for individuals and families. Good luck.

Around Hot Springs there are some great mule deer to collect. We lived in Hot Springs and Edgemont and every day I drove outside of town I saw groups of antelope and deer. Ate some great roasts at friends ranches too.
I live in Colome which is mid state and our town and Winner are known as the pheasant hunting capitals. There are a lot of hunting lodges in the area that are full from the beginning of the season to the end.
My brother lived in Jacksonville Fla and he loves it here. When we first moved here and were staying with friends in Hot Springs almost every time we struck up a conversation with someone in a grocery or other store they would invite us for dinner so we could find out more about the area and everyone helped us find a place to live. They didn't know us from Adam and didn't care they said. We have lived in 4 states and this is the best as far as we can figure when it comes to making people feel welcome.
