I know. Worried about fires today. I am really worried.
I just went out and checked my NOAA guage so I could make my morning report. When your wind rolled through here yesterday evening, about sundown, and even though the rain was going sideways, my guage was able to trap .11 inchhes. It would help if you also got rain. Our wind is currently gusting to 45+ and our humidity is 38%.
The Fork fire is 5 miles west of Custer and 2 miles north of Highway 16 near the intersection of Renegade Pass and North Pole roads. Beth Hermanson, spokesperson for the South Dakota Wildland Fire Suppression Division said the fire has burned approximately 100 acres on both private and Black Hills National Forest lands. Structures are threatened, she said. A Type 3 Incident Management Team will be assuming command later today. The fire is moving towards the southeast.
A weather station 11 miles south of the fire recorded at 1:55 p.m. today sustained winds of 26 mph gusting to 48 mph. The temperature was 45 degrees and the relative humidity was 23 percent.

This one got entirely too close to my house! Will be glad to have some more additional moisture this weekend - you can still smell the stink from the burn when the wind is right!
Usually, whatever weather hits me, moves down into the Black Hills, shortly after. I don't know if this storm is going to do that, but it's already spread out and move South further than what the weather guys anticipated, so who knows.
Right now, every highway, in every direction from my Cabin, is closed due to blowing snow and black ice. This morning at 3am, my furnace quit me. Not to worry, my tent stove is doing just fine.
Snow has started to stick to the roads in Hot Springs. I would expect ice to form when the temps drop a few more degrees.
