hey Dogmandeux- just wanted to say thanks for posting your experience in South Dakota. I had a similar experience with a Trooper on the I-90 east of Rapid City. He was accusatory and demeaning. Me and my partner were cooperative as we underwent intense interrogation and an entire moving truck search while being separated throughout entire ordeal. I was just trying to get to Chicago in time to start a new job. The story gets more involved - I won't get into it. But I saw a look of disgust in trooper's face when I told him we came from Seattle. I regret it left me with a bad impression of the state and will likely take the 80 from now on

Trooper's on I-90 around Rapid City are very rude. I was pulled over a few weeks ago because I passed a trooper who was going under the speed limit. He claimed that I was driving 5 mph over and he threatened me with a $77 ticket and possible license revocation for giving him "attitude". When I asked him if I could see what he clocked me at he said he would just write me a warning.
He didn't clock me. He had no grounds to pull me over and he knew it.

I'm sure you have his name/badge number on the warning. I believe you should file a formal complaint. What ever happened to "To Serve and Protect"????
I haven't had a ticket in many years but I was pulled over while I was in Idaho for a job interview. That officer was really very nice. On one hand, I'm sure they deal with the dregs of society so much that they become jaded towards the public and develop an attitude. On the other, they ARE THERE to protect the general LAW ABIDING PUBLIC, PERIOD! This leaves abolutely no room for abuse whatsoever...

This has been a very interesting thread. Thanks for all the insight.
I live in what is arguably the Meth Capitol of the world, Aberdeen Washington, and I despise the stuff! Just the other day, a friend who's lived here all his life told me that there are chemicals finding their way into the water table here, from all the meth labs. It's so disheartening to see so many addicts on the street here.
But, as much as I hate the drug and applaud every effort everywhere to get it out of circulation, I despise the kind of fascism you all are talking about. Danny, if it were me getting pulled over, I'd be coming up with more than just attitude -- I have a special super power of being able to squint my eyes up and shoot laser beams that will shrivel a policeman's testicles for the rest of their lives. It only works on a**hole cops! LOL!

a little known fact is that if you are pulled over and feel as if you are not being treated fairly or are downright being abused, you can ask the officer to call for his supervisor to come to the scene. Short of cursing at them, your attitude is up to you and there is not much they can say about it. If they ask you if they can search your car, say NO! Unless they litterally see smoke coming out the windows and smell something or have other reason to be suspicious, they have no cause to search your property and would have a difficult time getting a warrant. If they ask to search your car, ask for a supervisor to be dispatched to the scene immediately.

Haha! I'll keep that in mind for next time. The thing is, I passed him on his right side so he was really at fault. It was about 4am so I'm guessing he was just pulling me over because he had nothing better going on and you never know who's drunk. He asked me where I was going and I when I told him that I was going home he asked my address. He then argued that I was going in the opposite direction of my house which wasn't true. That's when I got the "attitude".
I didn't have an attitude, I was just simply proving that he was wrong.
Besides, an attitude isn't grounds for mistreatment. He serves me not the other way around.

Another great tip. A friend of mine's car was searched and the officer looked in his glove compartment. That is completely illegal without a proper warrant and when my buddy filed a complaint the officer was cited. It's amazing what cops do when they think that we're just dumb idiots driving around.
