Just wondering. I used to live there and I enjoyed it.

1717, how recently did you leave? That would help anyone trying to "bring you up to date" about "new" happenings.

Well, let's see. 50,000 foot view:
- Yankton College closed and is now a federal minimum security prison
- The north end of Broadway is really developed as a business district now, all the way up to highway 50.
- There's a new golf course - Fox Run - just west of Broadway and south of highway 50.
- The highway out to Gavins Point Dam is now 4 lane and lots of business developed on the way out.
- The State campgrounds above and below the dam have really been updated and are full all summer long.
- Gurney's closed
- The over/under Meridian bridge is closed to traffic and is now a pedestrian/bike bridge. A new bridge was built that's a straight shot coming south off 81.

Still a really nice community and a lot of community pride locally.

love the dam area, and Yankton is a nice place, but....

Yankton mall was built when I was in elementary school, Stewart Elementary that is. Anyway this was in the late 70's.

We've moved and been away 30 plus years. Visited recently, went to mall. THE EXACT SAME CARPET, TILE, FOUNTAIN, It was like going back in time.

Many of Yankton's city father like to tote community pride and progress until it might possibly step on the toes of their own businesses or their friends. New businesses have one hell of a time getting into Yankton, so you don't many. Norfolk and Mitchell are much more progressive in recuiting and improving their commercial growth and it shows. If you want to seriously shop....Yankton isn't really the place to go. From what I understand is the rent in the mall is so high that few businesses can afford it...lots of places come and go. I think Penney's in the only store that has been there since the get-go.
