I know the whole area - I spent a lot of time dealing with obnoxious landowners all over the western USA. I merely pointed out the fact that they moved from Texas to SD - where as you pointed out it's not a town, so much as a PO Address. Where little would be said if they moved there.
You make it sound like a person should avoid the entire area simply because of one place that is only a few acres, well fenced, and the owner died a couple years back. Nobody else in that area is LDS.
I wouldn't shun a family for being LDS anymore than I would shun a family for being Catholic, Babtist, Methodist, Lutheran, or any other religion. My neighbors religion is none of my business. If they happen to go to the same church as me, then a neighbor has a tie or something in common, nothing more, nothing less.
I lived in the Black Hills for a good number of years and while I lived there, I couldn't tell you what the neighbors religion was, and more importantly, I couldn't care less.

That is the true beauty of this area. However I am more reserved about who I welcome to this area.

Reason: You know why.
do you guys know about pineridge, SD? How is life over there? planning to relocate for new job opportunity
Haha! Beautiful area, great jobs, fantastic schools.
Pine Ridge is an Indian Reservation. Poverty is rampant, the only jobs are with the schools or government offices, and the area is very bleak. What type of job are you being presented?

Physical Therapist in Pineridge hospital, I haven't sign any contract yet. Thank you for that information. I am not sure if I am going to accept it. It's a good pay but, still in doubt.

The village of Pine Ridge does not offer a lot in the way of social amenities although I am not sure what you would be looking for. Hot Springs, I think, has more to offer in housing, shopping, restaurants, etc. and the commute may be acceptable.
We were both "heavy" pilots and have lived all over - uprooting the kids every few years, never settling down. I was born in Maui and it's way too expensive to live there. DH was born in NE Georgia. His hands are crippled with arthritis. We are currently in Chama, NM - but longing for a lower humidity area again. Would rather live in a semi-arid area with just enuf water to grow greenhouse plants and where we can get decent medical - not VA.
What is the average humidity in Hot Springs vs say Hulett or Lusk?
lusk is north and slightly east of Sundance. Humidity is generally manageable.
I think you meant Hulett (just north of Devils Tower).
