Avid reader of American native, Sioux books, especially South Dakota late 1800's. I'd like to plan a trip to Pine Ridge area, view; Wounded Knee, Stronghold in Badlands, Bear Butte, etc. My question is Pine Ridge area especially back roads, will I, (a middle age white guy) sorry for lack of pc. be safe visiting here.
Friends and family, when I tell them of my plans, basically come right out and say, "they hate white people out there".
I'm trying not to be naive, and although there may be some animosity for the past, most residents will probably be friendly.
Danny is right. I have never had a problem when visiting Pine Ridge. Of course, I didn't "hang out" someplace where there might be a problem either. The Lakota are generally friendly and don't want any problems either.
