HI. You must be psychic or something.
I will send you a direct message since I am not current on some of the info, BUT I have a phone number for you.
As far as cell phones, Verizon is one that works over there. My guess is there are others that will work there, too, but I don't want to lead you astray since I'm not sure which ones.
Are you planning on living in the country since you're asking about well water? The Alexandria area was never really known for having good water. But about 25 years ago the city got hooked up to rural water and it is very good. The water bills can get a bit high, especially during the summertime, but it's well worth it since you won't need a water softener.
Let me look up the contact number for you to call about internet. There used to be a family over there who had the phone and internet company, but they've since retired so I couldn't tell you the current people.
Good luck and you'll love it in Alex. It's full of nice and friendly people. They're really in to gardening and planting flowers and doing homemade baking, etc. VERY nice community.

"alex"
Can't comment on cell phone/ internet coverage, but the water always seemed alright there. Lots of really nice people in Alex like Jammie said, you'll meet a lot of people with the same last names as there are some big families that have lived in that town since what seems like the beginning of time, but good people that live there. Lake Hanson is an interesting place - it's this small lake outside of Alex a few miles that became really built up from Alex residents first having "lake cabins" there, and then residents began building their year round homes there. I heard this last summer that the lake actually dried up (consequently leaving a mud slough with some very tightly packed in/ big fancy homes on one side of it), but since then they have fixed the issue (repaired the damn maybe?) and it's a lake again .
At one time there was a small pilgramage (probably only a couple of people) of some very religious Catholic persons moving there for the 'fatima shrine', but the people in Alex overall are very down-to-earth and welcoming.

I have also contacted Mitchell Realty to also see what is avalable and what can they do for us. We do have a Mortgagre here in Florida and are looking to move to SD. We are exited and ready. Any tips would help. And by the way Jammi it was over a year ago that i joined this forum and you gave me advise, so i knew you would be the 1st to answer. Thanks for the info.

OK and here I thought you were psychic. Yea, I can't remember the name of the company over there, and it may be Santel. I DM-ed the phone numbers of the people who used to be the owners of it there.
Cam, it's ironic that you mentioned Lake Hanson. My Father-in-Law had helped build that lake. I believe it was in the dirty 30s and the government offered people jobs to work on projects like that because there was no employment to be found. Yes, I heard they had some problems over there last summer. Too bad cause it's such a nice, clean lake, but I understand they're not letting it die out.

I have stopped in Alexandria on several occasions, mostly to fill up my car. The people there seemed to be friendly and good-natured, which is common in most places of South Dakota. It is a short 12 mile drive to Mitchell and 50-55 mile drive to Sioux Falls, which puts it in a handy location for a small town which is also a county seat.
