Breakfast places are limited, but there are some good local choices. The only "fast food" place for breakfast is Subway. The top choices would be Baker's Bakery or Our Place - good food, good prices. The Wrangler is also open for breakfast, but is not my favorite choice. If you happen to be here on a weekend, the Buglin Bull does a good brunch with prime rib.
The weather is good this week - don't know if you are here already or not, but we are not expecting anything but a stray thunderstorm or two. There are literally hundreds of things to do within 100 miles that are not to be missed, but it would help if you could narrow down your interests! My best suggestions are always the parks - 6 National Park Sites within driving distance (Jewel Cave NM in Custer, Wind Cave NP in Hot Springs, Mount Rushmore NM in Keystone, Devils Tower NM in Sundance, WY, Badlands NP in Wall, and Minuteman NHS in Interior) and of course, Custer State Park. Lots of fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking to be had.
Wrangler gets our vote. Not sure on breakfast fare. They can do a burger fairly well, as in now screwing it up terribly bad. Usually if we are camping it is campfire pancakes, eggs and bacon. With some really strong coffee.
A must do, IMO, is a hike up Harney Peak. Take off from Sylvan Lake 3 1/2 miles to the summit. On the way down from the top a side trip to the Cathedral Spires. It is best to take off early, well, 7 AM early. You can make the top of Harney and have an amazing view before it becomes hazy and thunderstorms roll in.
I almost forgot - the Laughing Water restaurant out at Crazy Horse is decent, too. My husband is a cook there in the summer when he isn't giving music lessons.
We just ate at the cattle mans. Delicious and I don't eat steak much
