UH... that is funny. Living in a tourist town with only one lane in either direction can get very frustrating. People from Texas come to visit and God love em, think that cars can stop on a dime on an icy road when they cross outside the crosswalks because it's inconvenient to walk a quarter block over. We all have our frustrations when it comes to getting somewhere. I can understand where SD is coming from, when your time to get from one place to another gets longer than what you remember it used to take it can be frustrating. I am sure you are right, the only thing worse than LA traffic for me would be God forbid living in NY City.
For clarification I never once compared taffic to LA or any other metro area. Sitting in a crossover counting cars on Wednesday versus Friday is the point I was attempting to make. Comparing October traffic versus July traffic.
The wind in Hermosa based on my research appears to be greater than the northern hills, Spearfish area. Spearfish is averaging 9 mph most months and Hermosa 18 mph. Would that be accurate and would up hwy 36 near Custer State Park be as windy as the flatter lands of the city of Hermosa or maybe windier?
36 is fairly sheltered. Up 36 it isn't near as windy. It's western South Dakota anything from the foothills east will have wind. I guess I am used to it.
So, would you agree it's windier on the eastern side of the Black Hills than it is in the north?
It depends. The north side like Spearfish, and in the hills not so much. Sturgis, Piedmont etc, yes it is windier. Belle Fourche and north there will almost always be a wind.
