Try restaurants along Main Street in the older part of Downtown-
Botticelli's Italian Restaurant is a local favorite.
Delmonico Grill is great, but really pricey.
The Landmark is in the Hotel Alex Johnson.
Can't go wrong with the Firehouse Brewing Co.
Sanford's has a huge menu and gives you a lot of food for the price.
The Corn Exchange Bistro is also a local favorite and has a trained chef.
The Enigma is French and has a chef from the Cordon Bleu.
There is also the Pirate's Table on the westside. It's fine dining though.
Colonial House on Mount Rushmore Road is really good. My parents eat there frequently.
Shooter's Grill is on the westside near Clock Tower Plaza.
There are also tons of great Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Russian restaurants.

Thanks Again ! I think we ate the Pirate's Table last time we were there.
We are trying to make another trip during my son's spring break in March.

I worked at the Colonial House all through high school. It's a good place.
I'm not sure if you've went outside of Rapid City, but about 30 miles away in Hill City is the Alpine Inn. It's a steakhouse, they just serve filet mignon at night with a salad, baked potato, and texas toast. Their desserts are heavenly too. My dad's the chef there.

I would recommend Sanford's. The food is good and it has an interesting atmosphere. I remember that there was a Mongollian Grill/Asian restaurant on LaCrosse St. south of the interestate exit.

We also really like the Alpine Inn. It is like having dinner at Gradma's, and the wait on the veranda for a table provides great people-watching. Just read somewhere that there is a new Mexican restaurant across the street where everything is homemade from scratch and we are anxious to try that also on our next trip.

6 miles west of Rapid, on Hwy 44, you will find the Fireside Restaurant. They have hired a new gourmet trained chef, are presently closed for renovations, & will reopen the first part of Feb. with a whole new menu. We are anxious to try this new upscale restaurant.
The Firehouse, Sanfords & Colonial are middle of the road restaurants. If you are interested in higher quality, the restaurants to try are Botticellis, Enigma, Corn Exchange, the new Fireside, Delmonicos, & the Sunset Grill (out Sheridan Lake Rd). They are more expensive for a reason.

The Delmonico Grill was kind of outrageous. $21.95 for a pasta entree is a little too upscale for me. I did the Enigma on a special occasion though. The Chateau Briande was a total of $70 for a couple. It was delicious though!

Since we do not live there (yet), being a upscale restaurant is not that important. Great food, atmosphere and excellent service are the most important things.
