I've been lurking around the SD threads for a week or so now. Thinking of heading for the hills. Cant take the Texas heat much longer.

When I came across this thread, I signed up to ask...

What ever happened to mhurd74? He had a great idea to start a barber shop in Deadwood. Anything ever open up?

Not that I know of. I think part of the reason there isn't a barber shop is because there are so many stylists to compete with. I know a barber is different, but the many stylists up here are very reasonable for mens cuts, and if I remember correctly one or two are licensed to do open blade shaves. Also commercial property is at a premium in Deadwood so having a shop is tougher than it may sound. My wife does hair in Lead, and I sold a home in a commercial neighborhood in Deadwood several years back to a stylist - it is a challenging venture getting into a commercial operation in this town when dealing with a non-gaming venture when the values are gaming driven.

Not sure what came of mhurd74.

Personally, I'd only get a haircut from an old time barber shop... A guys-guy hangout with baseball on the tv and John Wayne's picture hanging on the wall, where they use warm shaving cream and an open blade, and the only words spoken are "howdy" and "thank you". I love shops like that. I always wanted to be a barber, just so I would have an excuse to spend the entire day there.
