Default Needing Information and Help in Rapid City

Hello, My daughter moved to Rapid City and works for minimum age. Her eleven year old son moved in with her. He can't get into school because of a fight he had with another boy in Colo. Isn't there a law about schools? He goes to work with her. His self-esteem has been ruined by the principal. Also, my daughter needs household items. But her primary concern is getting him in school. Can anyone help? The school is on the North side middle school.

Thanks,
Linda

Is he getting taught at home now? It is illegal to prevent a child from obtaining an education. If I were your daughter, I would talk to the school board and force them to allow him in school. Rapid Ride is Rapid City's busing service and they have a route that goes past North Middle School. Dakota Middle School is also close by and buses run past there.

Dakota Middle School is downtown and North Middle School is near the Rushmore Mall. If he cannot get into North, try Dakota.

State vehicles should also give him a ride.

Linda,
I guess I would have to ask the same question DannyBanany asked. Is he getting taught at home now? The State deals very severely with parents that do not hold up their end(in this case, schooling)in raising the child. It is nothing to mess around with, unless of course he is 18 or over. This is NOT a scare tactic. We are concerned about YOU!
Bob

The principals and teachers in the North Rapid schools are some of the most compassionate, devoted educators anywere. I would be curious as to whether I knew both sides of this story. Our national privacy laws do not allow the principal to share with grandparents what went on in their discussions. However, you could call to make an appointment to speak with the principal via telephone. Since we humans love being treated with respect, you should respectively & calmly explain your grandson's situation and ask what can be done to get him into school. It's amazing how frustration will take us to the "dark side". Stay calm, make requests, not demands.

There are a number of organizations in Rapid that can be helpful to your daughter in her household needs. One of the first to contact is Love INC. (Love in Christ), 718-5683. Their website is: default.aspx

Hope this helps.
