There are a few big housing developments going up along I-90 between Box Elder and Rapid City and a few between Box Elder and Rapid Valley. They're mid-size homes that run about $160+. Box Elder proper is kind of a slummy area to live in. It's mostly a row of old trailer parks along I-90 with the occasional industrial park and a strip joint.

Rapid Valley is a popular bedroom community for Rapid City. IMHO they have the best views and nice homes.

Rapid Valley is directly east of Rapid City while Box Elder is directly north of Rapid Valley. You cannot see Rapid Valley from I-90 and Box Elder because it is on the other side of a plateau of hills that run along I-90. Kind of confusing, but I thought you may want to know how to find it.

I should stop and explore a little more when I swing through Rapid in the future. It seems like it is harder for me to make it out to Rapid as opposed to Omaha, Des Moines, and the Twin Cities (mainly due to having people I know in those three cities and they are closer than Rapid). I usually make it out there once every year or two.

To me, Rapid Valley seemed like a mystery. This is probably due to not seeing it from the interstate or US 16.

Welcome to the forum!
I have to admit that we have seen an increase of snow removal and sand in our area of the Valley. They are mostly on the main roads, ie Ave A and South Pitch, so it was nice this time to just have to get down our street. We love the elementary that is here, but I am one of those people that plan out the future (something I am working on!) and am at a loss for this one. You are right it is getting big out here. We were considering the new Northern Lights subdivision behind McDonald's as it would be Douglas school and we wouldn't have to move far, so that may be an option in a few years. Thanks for the welcome I love Rapid Valley and City and don't want to live anywhere to far from them!!

Rapid City and Rapid Valley have grown quite a bit in the last years. Most of the exits also have been changed around and improved in Rapid City. The town is a growing! Rapid Valley has a very nice brand new school and its own fire dept along with a lot of very nice stores popping up yet it still is considered to be Rapid City for the town, yet its population is census of its own. We started our family in Rapid Valley as the homes are reasonable priced and the neighborhoods are full of younger families so our children had plenty of playmates!
