Oh yea, remember those good old glass bottles that pop came in? It was SO much better then it is in all the plastic. And those cute little coke bottles~no wonder we have a problem with obesity in the country. A bottle of pop used to be what~8 or 10 oz? Now it's 24 oz.

There's nothing like Orage Crush Soda is a glass bottle. It's rare to find but when I do I stockpile!

Orangina in a bottle is also rather amazing!

OMG, orange crush is exactly what I was thinking of, too. They also used to have Ellwein's grape and strawberry in the bottle, but they closed up several years ago.

YES, I remember when A&W was on Havens in Mitchell. They had the best root beer. They even had car hops yet and it wasn't a comeback~it was just the end of the fad. Unfortunately, they closed up a LONG time ago. I also remember a little soda fountain in the drug store. Anyone remember Woolworths?Yup, that's gone, too. GEESH, now you guys are making me feel old and nostalgic.

yes I remember Woolworths and Ben Franklins 5 & Dime
Oh, yes, the soda fountains at the drug stores. You could sit and watch them mix the soda and syrup together.

Drugstores also had super thick milkshakes served with the mixing can because it wouldn't all fit in the footed glass!

NDProduceLady is on a distinguished road
I attended a two room country school north of Platte at Carroll District #2. I can easily say that I had a wonderful education. No running water, outdoor bathrooms and the only hot lunch you got was in a thermos, if you were lucky; otherwise sandwiches were the rule. (Hated going to the bathroom in winter though)

I had no problem in high school or college later on. Comparing that education to the ones my kids get now isn't the same. They may have more resources, but the core values and the basic education structure are very limited in todays schools.

I live in ND now and we recently consolidated the ENTIRE county into two schools. Some of those poor kids face a bus ride of two hours or more. How much money is saved by running those buses at the fuel prices we have now?

I may be an old timer, but I think we lost alot when we closed the county schools down in favor of everybody going to town for an education.

I attended Highland School, (now gone) in Buffalo County from 1955 to 1961. The wonderful life's lessons I learned while living on the Kieth Krog farm just one mile north of the school and while attending the school were priceless. Those memories have warmed my heart for all these years, and will as long as my mind functions well enough to recall them. The Sinkie's, Knight's, Weber's,Middlesteads (sp?) and I (Phil Hawkins) still live on in my memories. 22-scidoo,kick the can, baseball (using dried cow patties as bases), snow ball fights and forts.... OMG What great memories!!!!
