My Wife and I came to the northern Black Hills in 2002 and built a beatiful log home on ten acres. Taxes are high 6500. per year. Jobs are scarce. Pay is low. As long as you are not from east river the people will treat you nice.
VERY BEAUTIFUL. The future of the Black Hills is starting to show growth. This area is best discribed as a Mayberry town with an Aspen ombiance.
I've never seen a bear or a mountain lion and I live way out in the Hills.
Let me know if you would like more data.
Scott

Wow, not sure what you mean by that. We're from East River and have never had any problems out there.

We are just thrilled this morning. We've been invited to a graduation out there so in a couple weeks we get to spend a few days there.

I agree Jamie... we grew up east river and have never had a problem now living here - very welcoming and I know lot so other folks who are east river originally

I do agree that wages can be low compaired to cost of living and taxes, but again that depends on your field and employer - both hubby and I have decently well paying jobs and with in a year or so, will be in the same pay range we were in when living in Denver. In our opinion is that this balances out with MUCH lower cost childcare, no state income tax, and very low car insurance as compaired to a higher paying metro area

Scott, thanks for the information. By east river, you mean what exactly? Sioux Falls? Someplace else?

Hi BSW, thanks for the information. I was in town this weekend looking around and noticed a letter from a Summerset resident regarding ... well, some governance issues there and the possibility of a slaughterhouse being built in town?

Hi all. I live in Ohio and am considering taking a job in Rapid City. I love the outdoors, love to hunt and fish, so I figure this will be a great place to live. My only concern is that as I have researched many picturesque small towns, liberals love to move there and ruin them. It's a shame that if you want to live in a decent place you have to move to the most uninhabitable places. Anywhere that is beautiful quickly is overrun with freaks who try to push out the decent folks ( Asheville NC, Austin TX, most of Oregon and WA etc ). So how is Rapid City? I looked it up on Flickr and all I saw were hippies spraying graffiti in alleyways..not a good sign. Is this a "progressive" ( socialist ) city? Or is it a good place for a Christian family? Thanks for any replies.

Default That's Odd

I checked the Flickr website for Rapid City http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Rapid%20City&w=all And found several pages of photographs of Rapid City. I only checked the first page which had a dozen or so photo's, but none of them were of hippie's painting alleyways. Do you have a different web site address??? I would like to see those photo's.

Try doing the search again. Flickr randomly moves the pics around. I went back and the pics of the alleyways were farther back. There were tons of pics of graffitti.
