Wife wants to move back to S.D. (Mitchell, Pierre: theater, school district)

My wife and I have been away for the past 15 years. We are looking at Mitchell as one possibility. Not too big and not too small. One main question. What is available for the kids? Dance, karate, gymnastics, swim team, etc.? Thanks

YES, all of the above. You can check out Linda Feterl's School of Dance. They are fantastic. There is also a gymnastics program through the school district along with a swim team. I know there are karate or judo classes because one of our old neighbors had their son enrolled. I'm not sure who to contact about that though so you'd have to ask around.

Mitchell is big on sports, especially basketball, but they have many other activities, too. I especially like our music department and if you have a child interested in it, it's worth checking in to. Our show choir and band are awesome and rate very highly in contests. They also put on some good plays and we now have the PepsiCola Theatre that have some good plays. (mainly adults)

Ditto Jammie's response. We also have well developed kid's programs in ice hockey, soccer, swimming, softball, baseball, tennis, and a host of summertime recreation programs, children's theater, arts and crafts short courses, swimming lessons.

Thanks for the info. My wife grew up in Reliance(1/2 horse town) and I was born in Pierre. We lived in RapidCity before moving to Lafayette, LA. She is tired of Lafayette and wants to move back north before our daughter gets too much older. We are leaning more toward Mitchell. Our daughter is very involved with karate and would want to continue her training. Since you said there is a karate dojo and gymnastics in Mitchell, that's a big plus. Thanks again.
