Exclamation Moving to sioux falls, need help.

Okay i know another person already asked this for the most oart, but imma shoot again just for fun.

We are moving to Sioux Falls in a couple months for a job i just was accepted for. We are moving from the Omaha, NE area where my wife is a slot supervisor at a large 1800 slot machine 75 table game casino. Is my wife going to have problems finding an approximate $30,000/year job?

Also, the other question, where are the worst parts of town in Sioux Falls? We have a 3 month and are panning on baking up a couple more buns....

We will have to rent cheap until our house sells.... but after that we will have a good financial plan im pretty sure.

Any and all information will help.

Thanks Alot!

Josh

Hi Mongo, welcome to Sx. Falls and to the forum. As far as bad areas in Sx. Falls~there are more preferable areas, but there are really no slum areas or places you'd want to avoid. I've read where people suggest not to live in the area of the Pen, but that area also has Falls Park and is actually a nice area.

As far as your wife finding a job that pays 30,000 a year, it may be a bit difficult to start at a salary like that. We are a low wage state, but it's very possible that if she finds a job and stays with it for a few years she may get that for a salary. Sorry to tell you, but it's rare to start at that wage in the area of general employment. Trust me, I know about that.

Mongo,
What does your wife want to do...anything specific? Like Jammie said, starting out might not be 30K/year. Just depends on what experience she has, and what she wants to do.
And like Jammie said, Sioux Falls doesn't have any really bad areas... Around the state pen is an area that I would avoid. Another area would be just west of downtown, but they are actually in the process of revitalizing that area. In the past, I would avoid even driving through the area...too many drunks and shady characters. But as I said, I've seen some positives changes.
Good Luck with your search, and any other info you want/need, we'll be glad to help.

1 or 2 bedroom apartments in Sioux Falls will probably be between $400 and $700 per month. Depends on what type of complex it is.

Yea, Sx. Falls rent can be a bit high compared to other areas except for the Hills area.

A nice 1/1 may run you at least 600 and I'd guess a 2/2 to be close to 800. They've gotten kind of high rent wise.

Cool Wife's experience

My wife has experience as a dairy queen manager for 2 years and a slots department casino supervisor for six years. Are there any large casinos in sioux falls or are they all small in size? Her last casino was huge, with about 1700 slot machines and 75 table games. It will be interesting to see what we can find for her work wise.

Thanks for the replites guys, much appreciated.

Default Moving

The Royal River Casino (ROYALRIVER.COM) which is located about 35-40 min north of Sioux Falls in Flandreau, SD. You could live in Dell Rapids which is in between and about 15 min north of Sioux Falls. (dellrapidsinfo.com) or (dellrapids.org). Dells is a community of 4500-5000 people with two excellent school systems to choose from one private (stmarycatholicschools.com) and one public (dellrapids.com).

Great community that I would recommend to anyone. Hope this helps.

That's an excellent suggestion. It's a very nice casino and we have often gone there for their entertainment.

Agree...check out Royal River Casino in Flandreau...its about 40 miles from Sioux Falls...but its a major casino in the area. Your wife may be able to get a supervisory type job in food service right in Sioux Falls.
