Horse People in Rapid City Area ???
My family is looking at relocation to the Black Hills area and wonder what kind of horse activities are available ?? Also, any input on what areas to check for horse properties and horse services would be appreciated.

Rapid City itself has polo fields and riding clubs but most people who own horses live either on the prairie or in the hills. The Black Hills has tons of stables to store horses and features many riding trails too. The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is also a great place where wild horses can roam freely. It is north of Hot Springs.

Thanks Danny,
We'll try to hook up with some horse owners so we can figure what towns to consider buying a little property. The Hills sound more appealing than the praire but then I imagine they'll be more expensive too.

For a place to start looking, start with the village of Hermosa which is just south of Rapid City on the east side of the Hills. From Hermosa to a few miles into the Hills are a number of ranchettes, horse stables, etc that might fill your needs.
BTW, the Wild Horse Sanctuary is south of Hot Springs. Hot Springs is another good area to check out, but water is not always available on all properties.

Like UncleHarley said, Hermosa is a great place to look. Other place south of Rapid City should work out rather well too and you'll be right in the foothills with great views.
Check out these towns between Rapid City and Hot Springs:
Hart Ranch
Hermosa
Hayward
Fairburn
Buffalo Gap

Any luck finding a horse property? We just moved from the Rapid area and have a 40 acre horse property for sale just south of Rapid and know of some other properties that are also for sale. The hills are great for horses, so many trails and with the mild climate you can ride most of the year! Enjoy your adventure!

Horse Property
Nothing yet JJORD. We check every day online through MLS but while regular housing seems reasonable, finding a house and a few acres is difficult and kind of spendy.
We're coming out the first part of June to check things out and might even sneak in a couple of fishing days.
Thanks for asking.
