Question living in south dakota

I'm 57 years old and a retired teacher. I have also worked as a reserve deputy sheriff for almost 17 years. I'm thinking about leaving california, so I can spend my last years hunting and shooting in a better place than california. I'm wondering what the chances would be for me to find a law enforcement job in south dakota, which combined with my meager pension, would allow me to survive.

It depends on what area you are looking at...

Just as FYI for you - Pennington County in Rapid City is always accepting applications for officers / sherrifs ... here is the link so you can scope out the pay etc

Default cost of living

Happy New Year's Eve. If you factor in the tremendous difference in the cost of living in South Dakota versus California, that alone is like having another income. At age 57 you'll be elegible for social security in five years which will add another 12 hundred bucks a month or so to your teaching pension. Another possible source of income would be substitute teaching. Most school districts never have enough subs, and even subbing in a junior high is better than having folks shooting at you in law enforcement. Have a grand day! tunner
