Exactly. Most people can't pay cash for the entire purchase up front unless (one example) they came from an even more inflated market and downgraded from there.

Check the health care jobs! If you are really serious about wanting to re-locate -you could pick your spot-2 years of schooling on a part time basis will grant lots of rewards-lots of places would probably pay part or all expenses for school-I think the opportunities are endless? My humble opinion! Not for everyone-but a real good field for many years to come! Airlines-droppin like flys on a cold nite! Good luck!

Wyoman, you are right about the healthcare industry out here in Rapid City. It is growing very well. Another thing to point out is the Indian Health Service (IHS). They will pay for your entire schooling if you agree to work and intern with them for (I think) 5 years. You could choose to either work on a reservation or in Rapid City at the IHS centers. I thought about doing it a couple years ago. I was interested in Radiology.

Hi,
I am new to the forum, and was hoping someone could answer my questions. I love the Rapid City area. I was there for a visit in 2006, and hope to go back when I get my Bachelor's degree in 2010. I will have a degree in Accounting, and was wondering if there are many jobs in the financial services industry out there? I am also interested in finding an internship for the summer of 2009.
I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the economy here is doing very badly. That's why I am looking elsewhere for when I graduate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ebinder, welcome to the forum. You'll get some valuable info from Danny and other West Riverers. (word?) You could check out the Rapid City Journal and stay current on what job opportunities are available.

Sorry to hear that your area is truly depressed. There's been a lot of news coverage about you and your surrounding states. Hopefully things will change for the better by the time you graduate.

Ebinder, try to contact some local accounting firms. I believe these are Rapid City's largest firms.

DeSmet and Biggs LLP

The Black Hills CPA Group at Rapid City

Thanks very much Jammie and Danny for your suggestions!
When I was there in 06 I toured Ellsworth AFB, do you know if they hire civilians?

I'm going to venture a guess and say, "YES". Ellsworth recently started up a company and they were going to hire something like 750 civilian and non-civilian employees.

Danny, how is that working out? Have they hired full-capacity? Credit card company, right?

Yes, the military issued credit card call center is located on Ellsworth AFB. It is ran by civilians. They have a nice big building out there now too.

I know that some people complain about finding jobs there in Rapid City. I am sure that is the case for certain fields, especially high paying jobs.

My question is kind of on the other end of the spectrum. Are there a lot of retail jobs to be had? Does it look like most stores are hiring? I realize the wages may not be great, but I'd be renting and know my budget.

It looks like the unemployment rate in RC is pretty low, which should be a good sign. Not to mention the new mall that is being constructed.

I would like to transfer in the coming months with my job in retail, but wanted to get a feel on if the retail jobs are even there to transfer to.
