Thank you blackhillsdreams! We'll look for those pics for sure! It is scary, but exciting as well, looking for a new place to maybe call home... We're reading so many good and helpful comments regarding South Dakota that it is becoming a very serious consideration for us. Making those calls tomorrow to the construction #s provided by Dannybanany (thank you so much!)... *lots o smiles!*

When I was in Rapid City last month I saw some homebuilder named Kawalski? homes was building homes at like $175,000 or so that each had their own wind turbine that generated half their energy, I thought that was pretty cool....if I could find a job in Rapid that paid enough to afford that I'd definitely be getting one of those

(off topic again, sorry )

Thank you DannyBanany for all the helpful info you have supplied us!!! We may be moving to Rapid City! Does anyone know anything about All Star Construction Company?? We're desperate for work, and that might be a possibility for us.

And, this is the nicest bunch of people I've communicated with anywhere. = )

My son is currently stationed in Rapid City and now that my youngest has graduated, I am thinking about moving up there. I spent 2 weeks last summer visiting and just loved it. What is the job market like and what is typical rental price? Also, is it a breed restricted county when it comes to pets????

The unemployment rate for Rapid was 5.7% for the April stats. I don't believe May is out yet. I'll let the locals reply about the rent. It's just good to hear that you enjoyed it here.

Thanks for posting the link! I plan on moving to RC within the next couple of years, so this is definitely going to come in handy.

Daisy, what do you plan on renting? I'd say in general, a decent studio runs about $300 per month, a 1 bedroom is about $500, a 2 bedroom is about $700, and a 3 bedroom is about $900. Those are for apartments. A townhome will probably run you anywhere from $800-1200 per month. Utilities in Rapid City are amongst some of the lowest in the nation too.

I'm not sure of the breed rules for Rapid City but I think there are a couple that cannot be in city limits. There is a leash law and a "pooper-scooper" law but I think it's pretty lax because I find dog poop in my yard all the time. I never see stray dogs in Rapid City though. I think our Humane Society is pretty good about that.
