OMG, that's a lot of snow!!! The average for my area is 31 inches per year. It's not so bad if it falls during the autumn or springtime and melts right away. There have been years we had snow in Oct. and it didn't melt until the end of April. AND we'd have a lot of snowfalls inbetween. Kinda piles up after a while.

mjgustafson,
The travel guide is pretty impressive. I learned alot just flipping through everything doing a once over. It's kind of cruel though as I have found a ton of things I would like to do and see but simply wont have the time on our trip in two weeks. Hopefully, I can do/see those things later on after the move.
Let me ask you or anyone else who has the insight: what is the story on snow mobiles? Obviously, its a pretty popular hobby but are they treated like motorcycles and are street legal? Do people drive them to work and what not? License, tags, insurance and everything else?
Also, how popular is fly fishing in the Dakota's?
Thanks again guys.

Snowmobiles used to be a common sight in Sioux Falls after a bad snowstorm. You would even see a few at the downtown bars. I don't know if that is legal or not but when the snow is that bad the police really don't care as long as your not causing trouble.
There used to be a maintained snowmobile trail that went south through Tea and over to Harrisburg. I think it looped down to Lennox. With all the development it is not maintained any longer. Out further south like Canton and Worthing may still have maintained snowmobile areas.

Explain to him about the wind in the winter, you just can't by pass the wind chill, or the icy roads. I wouldn't relish the thought of driving thirty miles daily(I did at one time). Hey but if you can do that and love it still, more power to you. You'll fit right in. I've been to TN east west side. It is a beautiful place, but not windy. Hopefully you won't miss your trees.
What kind of fishing?

HMMMM, I don't know if that would be right. A calm day is about an 11 mph wind here. It's a very windy state, especially East River and a typical day is 20 mph winds. It's not unusual to have 30 or 40 mph winds with higher gusts.
That's one of the reasons they're starting to put quite a few wind turbines up. Lotsa wind here.

There is a lot of potential for South Dakota and other parts the Midwest/Great Plains states to really power a great deal of homes, and possibly cars of the future (electric) with wind, which we have a lot of. It will be nice to tap into the wind instead of complain about it. It will help our farmers with the land, conumers (in the long run), communities with additional tax revenue and jobs, and America.

Well the time is near. The wife and I will be leaving for the Dakota's this Saturday afternoon for our road trip and we cant wait. Just wanted to say thanks again for everyone's input and help. In the event you see a black truck with TN plates traveling across the land, give me a honk. (without flipping me off.
Thanks again.
