Western SD sent much of it's soil over to us here East River at more than 90 mph late this afternoon. It was amazing watching the massive brown dust cloud blow toward us, and it kept blowing for about an hour. In the Vermillion/Yankton area several semis were blown over on 50, mobile homes damaged, rvs turned over, tons of trees and fences down, many roads blocked. The wind blew down one of my big cottonwoods, but amazingly it just missed both my fence and my garage.
Major props to our rural electric co-op. Power was only down a very short time.
Then we got a second round a few hours later, this time with rain, thunder and lightening.
Hope the rest of you are ok.
I guess we'll find out soon whether or not it was a derecho.
I am out camping and it was interesting for about a half hour to 45 minutes in the camper. I have a picture of the wall of darkness about to hit. Will upload when I get home.
My wife sent pics of our neighborhood and there are trees down everywhere. She said we lost a few shingles but that was it to our house.
Weather channel says what we had was a "haboob followed by a derecho". Followed by either a tornado or a severe thunderstorm, depending on where you live. It was exciting, all right!
Here are the just before and after pics from when I was out camping last Thursday.
