I did vote for Obama but not because of his being "liberal" but because what made McCain a great politician did not shine in the election. I also look a choices, If McCain had chosen Liberman or Romney I would have changed my vote. Not wanting to sound mean to FREDMAN but are you a Joe six pack or joe the plumber. That is my 2 cents and I hope all a happy new year.

I agree with you and I am also a Democrat and often vote in the minority in elections and our delegation in Washington, Democrat and Republican, do a good job of working hard for our state and are reasonable by and large. The only way I would have voted for McCain would be if he picked Romney or someone who was more knowledgeable on economic matters and if Obama would have picked Kane or another person who did not have the depth of Hillary, Biden, or Richardson.
I normally vote a split ticket and have voted in many elections since the Gore-Bush presidential race. Usually, its half one part and half the other or I may lean Democrat a little. I usually vote for who I am most comfortable with and who I think would do the best job. This past election, I have voted for two Republicans and rest Democrats.
No, I do not think that South Dakota is getting too liberal. It is overall a fairly conservative state, but it may be trending more moderate/centrist in the past few years (although South Dakotans tend to be independent-minded relative to national political trends).
