I've been looking at real estate in Lemmon. I read the thread about Colton being clannish. I wouldn't want that. The real estate seems to be super cheap, low proerty taxes. I know we all like specific questions, so I'll plead guilty now, what's Lemmon like?

CA, I probably won't be much help, so forgive me!
I've been to Lemmon a few times, but the last time was probably 5 or so years ago. I've always thought it was a nice community...it's pretty remote though. The closest "big" city would be Dickinson, North Dakota, about 90 miles away. You can find pretty much anything you need though in Lemmon. There is a regional medical center in Hettinger, ND...about 25 miles away. I don't see Lemmon as being "clannish", whatever that really means. Really small towns are sometimes reluctant or unsure about new residents. Lemmon has about 1400 residents, so I'm sure the "clannish" thing wouldn't exist. For the most part, I think SD towns are waiting, arms wide open, for new residents... |

I was born in Lemmon, and lived on the family farm a few miles south east of Lemmon for many years. (Moved to CA in 1988 and can not wait to get outta here!!) Still have family and friends there, but I'm not sure if I could move back.
I would suggest that you fly into Rapid City, rent a car and make the 3 hour drive to Lemmon and spend a few days. You are definitely isolated from the rest of the world if you live in that part of South Dakota....however it is very peaceful in a Mayberry sort of way. Winters can be brutal, but you learn to deal with it. |

Considering a move to Lemmon, would love to hear more. Employment is not an issue as I am semi retired, no kids. Just really looking for a house I can afford and friendly people. Lived in Dickinson for 7 years back in the 70's so I know about the winters. Thanks in advance.

Catlemm, I think Lemmon would be a good fit for you. I haven't been through the town in about 5 years, but its very remote, but has all the services you would need.
