Moving to Sioux Falls???? (Harrisburg: loans, home, living in)

Mark, it is the largest city in the state. Ehenningson is from the Omaha area and just meant that it's not the largest city in the "area."

I'm sure we all wish that you and your family would make Sx. Falls their permanent home.

Oh gotcha, funny as that's another thing about being here. What people consider "area" is basically the whole state. I've never seen a weather forecast on your local news station report for the WHOLE state.

We've been down to Omaha twice now and really enjoy the city !!! Another nice place !!!

Sioux Falls would certainly be easy to call home, but like I said, both of our families are still in Cincinnati. Seems I was the only one who thought it would be a good idea to leave home and see the world. Such is life, but now that this part of my life is coming to an end, I'm really looking forward to the next part being closer to my family.

Mahalo, to all of you. Its great to have such nice people respond to our thread. We still dont know if we are moving yet, but are definately hopeful. My hubby was there last week and he was able to look at a few houses. I dont know exactly if it is the south or east or whatever, but it was close to the VA hospital and it was really nice. I don't know if you are aware of the house prices here, but for a small 1200 square foot home here we could get get a mansion in Sioux Falls. The average priced home here is about 500,000 dollars and that is being reasonable.
Everyone tells me I am crazy for moving into a snowy climate from beautiful Hawaii, and I may be, but I think it would be nice to have 4 seasons. And to be able to enjoy lots of other places just by driving. Who knows I may meet up with many of you in the next few months. Mahalo again for replying....

Glad to read that you have an open mind about living in a place where there are four seasons after living in paradise!
Just be prepared for the worst and then you won't be disappointed. I know a family who moved to Sioux Falls from Colorado who absolutely hates it here, but work brought him here. He can't wait to move back to Colorado. Since I grew up in the Sioux Falls area, I am pretty much used to the weather, so I try not to complain much.
Houses are reasonable here. Just be aware of the property taxes....some people think those are a little steep, but at least we don't have to pay state income tax.

Well if I can get a house for 169,000 instead of 500,000 I think that I might still be willing to pay the higher property tax. I hope he gets this job, because I think I might really like living in Sioux Falls. Mahalo

Depending on what you want, some people cannot have any weather changes or their mentality declines.. They absolutely cannot do it, but with that said, I and many others all four seasons, and right about the time you start getting sick of one season, another begins.. It's a very relative deal..

What keeps me here is the variety in the weather. Yes, I get annoyed with cold weather and snow/ice along with some springs being rainy and the humidity during the summer. Having each season makes one appreaciate each of them or most of them. It would be awfully boring to live in California, Arizona, and Nevada where it is sunny and warm all year round.

After spend most of the last 9 years in Texas, I will say I really enjoy the change of season. Then again, you might want to ask that question again after another winter of many double digit negative temperatures...

The last winter was one of the colder winters in the past 10 years or so. Lot of it was due to the La Nina weather patterns, which have been weakening in the past couple of months. I am hoping that this next winter will be milder and more like the milder winters that we have enjoyed in the late 1990s and in the past several years, with the exception for 1996/1997, 2000/2001, and 2007/2008 winters. Love El Nino, dislike La Nina.

double digit negative tempatures??????? OMG, Hmmmmmm Hawaii doesn't sound so bad now. Who would want to leave balmy, tropical, Hawaii????? Maybe me !!!!! I can always come back to visit. But I definately think different seasons would be nice.
