hi everyone, needless to say Texas lives up to all the hype you have heard, they are proud of 2 things here, steaks and tex-mex, we have a Mexican restaurant on every corner and some very nice (and expensive) steak houses, what is the best / nicest
steak places around the Sioux falls area.

wantoutoftexas, I've seen some of the steak places in Texas on Food Network... Wow, some of them are impressive!
Sioux Falls has the usual chain steak places... Lone Star, Outback, Texas Roadhouse, etc. Foley's is one of the nicer steak places in SF... I haven't eaten there yet though. You almost need to venture out of SF to get to a good "steakhouse"... I've heard great things about the Tea Steakhouse... which is just a few miles outside the city limits, as well as the steakhouse in Hartford.

Thanks MJ, we do have some really great places to eat, and that is the ONLY think I will miss about this place. and what I find funny, is where ever I go on vacation I see the
Texas road houses (and not bad) but we just don't have that many of them here in Texas.
The one I've seen on food network the most is fogo de chao , check the website out, they are awesome.

I think that the small town independently-run steakhouses are the best for steaks: they provide a good product with good service and value. I was impressed with a steak dinner at a mom and pop restaurant in Salina, KS when I was on vacation two months ago. Reasonably priced and had good flavor. The place had a blue collar feel to it, but it is better than the cookie-cutter nature of the chain restaurants.

As for Sioux Falls, one of the places we have really enjoyed is Bracco's. It has a variety of food and the one dish that I love is the "Tropical Guava Barbeque Chicken" but ask for extra mashed taters, cause they are GREAT...
Granite City is good and I love their microbrews !!!
Q'doba is really good. It reminds me of Chipotle for those that are familiar.
As for other favorites, I'm from Cincinnati, so I love the Cincinnati Chili with TONS of cheese and a pizza chain only there is LaRosa's if you ever are in town !!!
Another thing about this area of the country is that almost every restaurant has Walleye on the menu. It's about my favorite and I've never seen it on a menu before I came to Sioux Falls...

Mark, I just ate at Bracco's a few days ago. I had the "Jerk Chicken" with an interesting dipping sauce. The mashed potatoes I had were awesome... Mine were a dark golden color, we thought maybe they were made out of sweet potatoes or yams or something?

I have heard good things about Bracco from my friends. I personally love Old Chicago and HuHot in Sioux Falls. I sometimes have too much of a good thing at those two places. Thinking about Old Chicago pizza is making my mouth water.
The Tea Steakhouse has been known quite some time for its steaks. I eat at the place occasionally. A little outdated inside, but the food is decent. It is busy during evenings and weekends.
Hartford Steakhouse is reasonable and the filet mignon and prime ribs are good. It is also a well-regarded place. I certainly recommend any one to stop there for a reasonably-priced yummy steak dinner that comes with a baked potato, lettuce salad, and melon. The menu is limited there, but is still worth going there for a good meal.

Good eats...
Danny, is Jake's upstairs in the Midnight Star? We were in that casino and it's very possibly the one we dined in. Our friends from New Jersey thought it was the coolest place with all the memorabilia from the movie in there. They had loved that movie before they ever thought of vacationing here. [/quote]
That is not Jakes, it is actually Diamond Lil's, Midnight Star's Sports and memorabilia bar. Jakes is located on the very top floor, and there is a designated elevator that will take you up for dinner. Jakes is an all out 5 star restaurant, very nice and elegant, a place you would want to dress accordingly for. Definitely no memorailia up there! It's expensive as well, but worth checking out!
I also love the Deadwood Social Club located above the Saloon No. 10. Great food and atmosphere there.
I am also amazed that no one has mentioned The Alpine Inn in Hill City! Only one thing on the menu (fillet mignon with potato and salad wedge), but boy is it good! I don't even like steak all that much, but there is definitly something about that place... And don't forget to try one of thier homemade desserts.
As for Sioux Falls, Sushi Masa, Taste of India, and Broccos are standouts, IMO. A new cafe downtown called Buffalo Berries is good as well. Also, Cafe 334 downtown is great. But a new chef just took over that place, so I will have to go there and check out what may have changed.
One thing I recommend to stay away from is Butter's Place in Spearfish. I think there is also one in Beulah, WY. I've seen the kitchen, and it made me sick to think that they are serving food to the public!
Anyway, happy eats!

Oh you've definitely named my FAVORITE place to eat in the Black Hills. I'm constantly suggesting The Alpine on the forum to people looking for a great place to eat. My favorite dessert is the Napoleon! MMM!!!
In Spearfish, I like Roma's Italian Restaurant. They let you color on the tables and you can see the chef's working behind a small wall. It's in a neat historic building and the decor is very warming. I also like the Bay Leaf for coffee and a sandwich. It's just down the way from Roma's.
