Default Most popular festivals in Rapid City?

Hello!

I am aware of the world renowned Sturgis bike rally, but besides the Rally, what are some of the other heavily anticipated --big-- annual events? Are farmers markets big in Rapid City as well?

I really do appreciate all of your help, I am learning from you pros everyday -- about your great state and wonderful quality of life. Hopefully soon, I can assist others with their questions, but right now, I'm still learning. At the current rate, I will be an expert when I move out there (1-3 years).

Well, since I've been here there's been the 4th of July at Mt. Rushmore - pretty much standing room only in the entire city of Keystone.

Deadwood puts on Kool Deadwood nights - my understanding is that its an annual thing, and there were several thousand extra people in Deadwood the last day when I took the kids down for the carshow.

Crazy Horse Volksmarch happens every year - you can walk out on the actual carved part of the mountain - I missed it this year, but I know a LOT of people who went.

I don't know if that's what you're looking for, but those are 3 things I can think of that draw pretty big crowds, and seem to be well known events around town. I've only been here since spring - I'm sure Danny or others will have some more ideas

The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, The Heritage Festival at Memorial Park, The Parade of Lights at Christmas, The St. Patrick's Day Parade, The Rapid Creek Duck Race, The United Way Day of Caring, Central States Fair, Fourth of July Fireworks at Mount Rushmore, Black Hills Homebuilders Expo, The Mustang Rally, Cruiser Night, Kool Deadwood Nights, The Deadwood Jamboree, Days of '76 Rodeo in Deadwood, Crazy Horse Volksmarch, Hills Alive Christian Concert Series at Memorial Park, Summer Nights on 7th is on 7th Street every Thursday in the summer. There's probably a few more too but I can't think of them right away.

The Black Hills Symphony and the Black Hills Playhouse also puts on regular shows. The Dahl Fine Arts Center has expos every so often too and they just expanded.

There is a Farmer's Market every Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday in Founder's Park next to the "Big Fish" sculpture. There is also one down by the Waterpark and Ice Arena off Omaha Street. It's great stuff too! I recommend "Zee's Jams". DELICIOUS!!!

Hertiage Festival was the one I was trying to remember. Do they still have the Black Hills Pow wow?

Also in July Hill City has the heart of the hills gathering kinda showcase of logging.

After the Rally there is the Central States fair. And you can't forget the Custer County Fair in Hermosa that is always a fun event... Beers and ears... yum

Also there is the Black Hills steam and gas thrashing bea in August.

Oh I almost forgot about the Pow Wow. It seems like I never hear about it until it has already happened. The Hemp Hoe Down is an outdoor concert in Whitewood each spring. It's put on by artists who support South Dakota's production of hemp -basically a bunch of stoners. Spearfish also has Art in the Park and the Black Hills Passion Play.

That's what one of our newspaper articles said. That is so disappointing. It's not like we went often, but we went several times. It was such a wonderful experience and I'm sorry they won't be having it anymore. The same cast did the Passion Play in Fla. during the winter and I wonder if they're doing that anymore.
