Speedway in SD?
Being a race fan and knowing that there are lots of race fans in the Tri-state area as well. (IA,NE,SD) that would love to see some professional non-dirt racing why can't we get a concrete speedway put down somewhere in Southeastern SD or Northeast Ne. There is plenty of open space. I mean the people of SF won't built an arena for Sanford to put his name on so maybe we should built a speedway for him to christen. thoughts?

Why not build it off of I-29 near the Hyperion refinery. This is close to the interstate and could spur some services such as gas stations, restaurants, etc. Another good place would be near I-29 but not too far from the Coffee Cup.

Chris had some good ideas. But the major thing is the $$$. I would love to see it happen some day though.

the more I think about it I think the right place to do it would be of the interstate but a little farther north than Hyperion maybe just south of Beresford that way people in SF and SC would have about an equal drive. I'm not talking anything huge but maybe along the lines of the Iowa Speedway in Newton.

I know the money is always going to be the issue, But the economic impact on the region would be huge. I think the population base is suffecient to support such a project. Depending on were you get your numbers the metro pop. for SF is about 200,000, and SC Metro is close to 150,000. Plus something like this would pull people from Omaha mostly because people from Omaha won't drive to Newton, you know the Omaha vs. Des Moines thing. I know I'm rambling anybody know a lawmaker who needs to score some points now is the time to start bothering them.

Are they moving forward with building the refinery now? It seems like it was a long-running debate.

I am a hard core racing fan as well as the next guy and would love to see a concrete track in the state. As far as pulling in the big names though, I don't forsee that ever happening. SD itself does not have the population numbers to make it feasible. My 2 cents.
