Default Sioux Falls And Spearfish Rated Well

AARP The Magazine's Healthiest Hometowns

I was reading through an AARP newsletter that said Sx. Falls was highly listed in a few areas. The article I have was telling all the good reasons to retire there such as bike trails, over 70 parks, a high amount of physician/patient ratios, etc. It also says that 93.4% of the population has health insurance.

One of their articles goes on to say, this about Spearfish~it has a~ "Feel of an old-school Rockies outpost, Spearfish is a small-town "hot spot".

That's a neat article. It seems like Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins always top the "fittest people" category in these articles. I bet it has to do with the high elevation, dry air, and sunshine because Mississippi has the "least healthiest" people and it's has low elevation and muggy air.

I couldn't find where it mentioned Spearfish, but Spearfish is a very attractive place for both families and retirees. IMHO Spearfish is the most beautiful town in South Dakota and it has such a healthy feel. There are tons of parks, trails, and the nightlife isn't too bad either. Unfortunately, it's still very small.

Sioux Falls has a number of options for health clubs and outdoor activities such as parks, bike trails, etc. Sanford and Avera McKennan each have their own wellness centers. YMCA has one and is partnered up with Sanford with Family Wellness in the west edge of SF. There is YWCA, Sioux Empire Fitness, Fitness 19, and one near Hy-Vee on Minnesota Ave. There are also 24-hour gyms such as Tryon Gym (multiple locations) and Bodyworks.
