What is your least favorite place to eat in SD
Now that we all know some of the best places, how about a list of the least favorite places, so people will know.
Numero uno on my list is Rapid City KFC, on Mountain View.
It not that their food is bad, cause I kind of liked it, but be prepared to get what you did not order or get shorted on an order! It is amazing how they can screw up a take out order. Four of my last five visits were hair-pullers! The fifth time was tonight, and it was an abomination! Their buffet is OK, if eating inside, but beware of take out! I decided tonight I am not going back! (Maybe I am just too Chicken!)

I had heard bad things about the McDonalds in Watertown right off I-29... from 3 different people. 2 of my friends, and a science teacher in junior high. Bad things as in getting sick from their food. I've there eaten once, and had no problems. Who knows!
As far as bad service, the last time I ate at Buffalo Wild Wings on West Avenue in SF, and our service was horrible. That place is always hopping though. I think a 2nd location is needed in SF.
I ate at the Phillips Avenue Diner once. I think our server was new...but wow, it was bad. I mean, I know what these workers deal with (did it myself). But this guy was just bad. I've heard really good things about that diner though, so I'll probably go back sometime.

One that comes to my mind was the Pizza Hut in Canton, not there anymore. Back when I was a kid, my parents and I went there a couple times and our order got lost. The service there, from what my parents said was horrible. I can vaguely remember going there as a kid.
There are a few other places that I shy away from. If I have a bad experience more than once, I know that there is something wrong. There are a few Taco Bells in Sioux Falls that are somewhat dirty and if I get food, I go through the drive through. Normally, I have good luck when I go to an eating establishment in Sioux Falls.
One that I can remember clearly and still get fired up is when my friend and I went to Sioux City to eat at Applebee's by the Southern Hills Mall. We came to the restuarant and got seated. No waiter came to our table for over a half hour. At that time, I was seriously annoyed and so was my friend. We spoke up and the manager apologized and offered us free meals. It was a nice gesture by the manager, but it would have been nice to be served within five minutes after being seated.
My parents, brother, and I ate at a steakhouse in Las Vegas two years ago and ended up getting undercooked steaks (mooey and too raw). The waitress was accomdating and did what she can do. The kitchen still gave us undercooked steaks and this happened for two more times. Our impression is that the cook there had an attitude . We fealt bad for the waitress. The manager came and visited with us and was not too accomodating. He chewed out the waitress and blaming her for the undercooked steaks, when it was the cook's fault. My parents, brother, and I were disgusted at the manager and I was furious at how the waitress was treated. I got a little snippy and stern towards the manager and let him know clearly how dissatisfied I was towards him treating the waitress like crap (which is simply not fair to her). Normally, I do not get snippy, but when someone who is acting in good faith gets treated like crap, I get stern (perhaps too stern). Later, the manager of the manager came to our hotel room and sincerely apologized for our bad experience and offered us free meals.
My family and I came to the same restuarant last summer and had the same waitress and ended up getting excellent service and the food was good. My parents, along with me, made sure that the waitress gets a good tip.
With bad service and places, unfortunately bad worker(s) or bad management may cast an unfair image on the eating establishment and an unfair shadow over the workers who care and act in good faith.

Chris, it sounded like the manager made a big mistake.
And there is something about Taco Bell and late night teens accumulating at the Taco Bells. I've noticed this at the 41st & Louise location.

Ruby Tuesday's in Mitchell.......We went once, about a year ago, and WILL NOT rerturn, due to the quality of the meal......every one I talk to says its a ''hit & miss'' situation 7 depends on who is cooking. However, after spending $40 on BURGERS & salad bar, I refuise to take the chance, again. I also heard that Bonnanza in Mitchell is now closed....Jammie, have you happened to notice, or been by there?

Sioux Falls had two Bonanza restaurants when I was younger. Both were decent for some time, but the one on East 10th St. went downhill in the early 1990s. My relatives had bad experiences there. The two closed around 1994 or 1995 area. The Yankton one is good and my parents like to stop there when going through or make a special trip and they liked to stop at the one in Mitchell.
Royal Fork is one that I do not care for. They are overpriced and do not have quite the selection in food. One has to pay for beverages separetely. I would much rather go to Coyote Canyon and they have a better selection of food and everything, including the drink, is in one price.

OK, so I need to get glasses. My fave is Pizza Hut. My LEAST fave restaurants are Kentucky Fried Chickens. I'm a vegetarian, but YEARS ago we went to one and got some chicken. (Pre veggie days) When you lifted the crust, it was raw and there were just big bubbles of batter inside. Absolutely gross.

For those that are tourists, I would have to say avoid any of the restaurants on the main strip in Keystone. They are all priced exactly the same (and a lot of $$$ to boot)--- and the food is really bad. If in Keystone, your best bet is to eat at the Subway that is inside of a gas station, or go to this German restaurant that is kind of on the outskirts of Keystone. I can't for the life of me remember the name, but the food was great and while it was a little pricy it was actually worth it.

Taco Bell is my cheap-fast weakness!!! I never have bad service at the one on Fairmont Boulevard in Rapid City. What really amazes me is that Brookings does not have a Taco Bell. If they did, it would make a killing! Maybe I'll set up a franchise and retire off poor college kids!

I didn't know Royal Fork was still going anywhere. The one in Rapid City closed because Olive Garden took its place and I'm glad because my grandmother nearly died from food poisoning there when I was little. The pizza was always green too...

No kidding! I spent nearly $50 for just two people at the Ruby House and all we got was burgers and salads with Ranch dressing packets. The service was terrible too and drinks cost an arm and a leg. I'd rather eat at The Alpine in Hill City anyday.
